Talk to me about getting hair color OUT of my hair.

So, I dye my hair...a lot. For a while it''s been a lightish red. I had some roots growing in a light ash brown and decided to go back to brown, but a bit darker than my natural shade. I picked up some temporary demi in medium brown. Well my roots are not much darker but the rest of my hair is pitch black! I don''t want to use color oops as it leaves hair more porous and mine is obviously already quite porous. I think I will let my hair girl dye it for me when I see her in a few weeks but I''d like to know if you have any tips for getting it out in the mean time.

Ps-I''ve already washed three times tonight with a clairifying shampoo. No change.

Ooof. That sucks! I find that after a few days my color tends to fade, so maybe after awhile it won''t be as dark? I''ve read that Dawn dish soap and Prell shampoo both strip your hair of color, but I''ve never tried them.

I used Dawn dishsoap when I had a flaming Bozo orange see it from space mistake. I washed it like 8 times and used a leave in conditioner for-jeez, about a week b/c it really dries your hair out. I''d put it on and put a towel over my pillow and go to bed. Turned a really pretty auburn color after the Dawn and then faded out.

I managed to strip quite a lot of colour from my hair by using Head And Shoulders original anti dandruff shampoo.

ive also used head and shoulders since its such a harsh shampoo. also, i have gotten in the tub before and lay my hair in the water for a long time. then shampoo, rinse, repeat. Ill normally take a book with me and read it while my hair is dunked in the water. I have literaly left my hair soaking in the water for an hour each time

This happened to one of my friends in college and her hairdresser told her to use a cheap conditioner (something like Suave) and leave it in overnight. The color lightened over the course of several days.

Head and Shoulders dandruff shampoo is supposed to be good at stripping color, as it Halo shampoo, if they still sell that.

Stop everything else and walk, don''t run, to your nearest drugstore and go buy a product called "Color Oops." (I used the Extra Strength version, 2 boxes because I have long hair.) They sell it in the hair dye aisle.

I had a huge debacle with my hair two months ago, where I tried to dye it "medium bronze brown" and it turned "burgundy black." One of my friends recommended it, and it totally restored my hair to the old color. In fact, I think it looks better now than before. Also, I have long, slightly wavy, fine hair, and it did not damage my hair AT ALL. You will want to use a deep conditioner after you''re done with the color removal, but there is no bleach in the product - it just rinses out the dye.

The only thing that kind of sucks is that you have to stand in the shower rinsing for 35 minutes. However, better than months of an ugly color. Plus, it was way cheaper than going to a salon to have color corrected.

I forgot to mention that two years ago I did dye my hair dark black-brown, then decided I didn''t like it, so I went to the salon to have it corrected. It cost $150 and only lightened my hair about half a shade, and it wasn''t at all close to my previous color - just slightly less black.

When I used the Color Oops two months ago, it totally restored my hair to its original light amber brown. It was like I had never applied a darker dye at all.

So, in my experience, the Color Oops at home stuff was much more effective than having it done at the salon.

Just wanted to update that after a week of washing 3x''s a day with harsh stuff and it not budging a inch...I called my hair girl. She told me to go get color oops. against my better judgment I did. Box one took the color out of my roots and the top 2-3 inches of hair but left the rest still pitch black, box two however...worked! My hair color is back and my hair feels great! Thanks for your suggestions!

Wow, this colour oops sounds fabulous! I wonder if it''s available in Oz?

They have something called Loreal "Color Oops" that removes color from hair. You'll likely want to recolor it after using that stuff. That'll work better than washing your hair 100 times.

Oh wait, just read that you don't want to use that stuff. Maybe an alternative brand? If it's over-colored already, how about some good old Prell and Suave, alternated?
