Okay trusted PS peeps. What's wrong with this plan? I got an email about a sale at Blue Nile & saw this deal http://www.bluenile.com/ping-pong-asscher-cut-diamond-14k-white-gold-ring_23421?track=mi

A 1/3 ct. Asscher (in a ring) for $510. Buy two and I'd have the raw material for 2/3ct Asscher studs. Of course I'd have two random ring settings and no earring settings but -- harumph. Still seems like it would turn out cheaper than I've found Asscher studs before. --OR-- I'd have the flexibility to make whatever design I want later on (miligrain bezels? halos? dangles? use as sidestones?) -- In other words, if I bought off the rack four prong Asscher studs but wanted to change up the settings I'd end up with leftover *earring* settings *anyway*. Though, in that case I could at least WEAR the studs until I reset.

Thoughts?

ETA: For those that don't know my sitch .... I have a 1.5 carat Asscher engagement ring & .70ish OEC bezeled miligrain studs already.

They have a couple... .30 ct VG Cut with the same specs for $378... and $373.. I only linked one.... and a couple bigger in the .40 range for $400+ range.. so.. no useless settings... and a little bigger stone...for less... you need to study the stones.. but that was a quick glance.. so if I missed something and I am saying the wrong thing.. sorry!! :read:

Interesting! I forgot to do that kind of search so that's super helpful -- THANKS! I'm not in a rush for these -- they're just kinda on my permanent "wish list" & I didn't wanna miss some kind of unbeatable deal. So that really helps put things in perspective! For a long time small asschers were IMPOSSIBLE to find & super overpriced when you COULD find them.

ETA: When I search for "pairs" -- the cheapest I can find is $1345 for "good" cut. Back to search individuals!

Are those stock photos or the actual photos? Anyway, it seems that BN has 30-day returns...certainly enough time to check it out if you don't love it...

You could go with the asschers from BN and see how you like them in person- if you think they are duds- then you can return.

BTW I have never heard of the other company you linked.

The ring ones? I'm starting to think it's a real cr*p shoot that I'd happen to get two rings w/stones that would make a good stud set. But good return policy I guess!

I couldn't figure out how to purchase individual stones and set them into earrings online -- would have to call on that. And their pre-set Asscher studs are pretty pricey (also backordered in the size I'd want). Hmmmmmmm

soo true, didn't even think of that. Maybe IDJ- with their great pricing- tell them your budget and that you want matching asschers in the .6 cttw range.

Ha ha Deco...you came to the wrong place for this! I love that 5 stone DS posted. :naughty:

With the return policy at BN, you'd have time to see if you like the asschers in person.

verdict??

No action taken! I did notice yesterday that Blue Nile got in 5/8tcw asscher studs in nice settings for $1200 and was a bit tempted. I'm working on a weight loss goal so ... stay tuned?

I think I've also been sucked full-on into Spring Fever and Spring Cleaning Fever ... which has my attention swung a bit away from bling to housey things. Not acquiring stuff but projects I want to do etc. I'm a fickle pickle I guess!

That gives me an answer right there. When I REALLY want something, there's not much that will distract me. So, if you've been distracted by spring cleaning (ugh!), then you made the right choice (imho) by not pulling the trigger.

Deco, can you find fakeys in that shape and try it? I only ask because my RBs get dirty so fast in my years and that certainly dulls the sparkle. Aren't asschers even harder to keep clean?

It's fun now that you have your ears pierced and can even look at this stuff though! :appl:

So true. It started out as one of those -- see a potential deal & wonder about it type of things -- but I guess I wasn't really, really, super craving them right now or I'd still be obsessing (if not already wearing them.) :naughty:

I have thought about that. I have dressy looking Asscher fakey *dangles* that I wear to weddings & dinners etc and those don't get too dirty but I'm wearing them ONE NIGHT and then taking them off again right away. Very different than wearing day in, day out etc.

Probably somewhat why I've been smitten by the Lucida bezel necklace & aren't (currently) trying to wrangle an asscher pendant of any kind. Lucida's are more like RBs in terms of longer-lasting-sparkle after cleaning vs. those finicky asschers maybe?

Yes, I would think you are right about the Lucida. The other downside to asscher studs is having them both turned the right way all the time. Rounds are soooo much easier! You could always get OEC's to coordinate with your ring style.

That's the even crazier thing! I *already* have OEC studs (w/miligrained bezels). :naughty: My next diamond earring purchase should REALLY be huggies. But to get the size I'd want -- lots of saving involved. Grrrrrrrrrr. As TG would say -- "first world problems."

Deco, having studs, I personally think that one pair is enough (unless you're going to boost sizewise). I have diamond hoops now and I rarely wear my studs. Save for the huggies, or something different than studs, is my opinion. ::)

Appreciate the insight! Have you posted ear shots of these diamond hoops of yours? :Up_to_something: I was at a local jewelry store yesterday getting my xmas watch adjusted *finally* (Kept hoping to lose weight in my wrist!) -- and I was eyeballing up their huggie selection just for fun. Nothing delicious. I do have mini huggies w/scattered gypsy set diamonds. Is it possible I've, in four short years, reached my limit of fine earring fun?

I have one inch diamond hoops, just bought off the clearance section on Solomon Bros. They work well for me. Not ACAs or anything like that, nor is the workmanship top notch, but I decided long ago not to spend a ton on earrings.
