Take off shoes?

No shoes in our house for dirt purposes. We have a giant shoe rack right at the front door. We have our own house slippers that we wear only when we want. We do not supply them to guests.

Shoes off for me but hubs refuses as he was raised to have shoes on as soon as you wake up. I hate all the junk he tracks in the house and of course it’s always me who has to clean up after him.

And while we are on the subject about shoes in the house (sorry to thread jack), I also don’t want other pets in my house.
I personally have/had two dogs, four cats, a rabbit and turtle, so while I do love pets, I don’t want other people to bring their pets to my house.
I had this happen once where I had three families bring their dogs to my house without asking and they scratched up all my floors, peed and pooped everywhere. They were supposedly trained but not in my house.
It was disgusting. I had to get all the carpets professional cleaned and even two years later found pee spots I missed. I know it wasn’t my pets bc they aren’t allowed into the basement (at the time we only had two dogs) and that’s where we found all of them. One of our guests had stayed in the basement with her dog and claimed that she didn’t need to walk her dog outside bc he was pad trained.
So now I let everyone know that I don’t want them to bring their pets to my house. I did have it happen one last time when my friend did bring her dog after asking me. I agreed to it but only if he remained outdoors. Of course that never happened. Every chance he got he would slip into the house and dry hump my dog! and my blanket, my sofa, my leg, he was a very horney dog.

I do not wear my shoes in the house. As soon as I get home, off they come.
I am barefoot in the summer or wearing socks in the winter.
DH wears shoes all the time. He has custom arch inserts for his shoes, and he says that if he goes barefoot, his back will start to hurt.

I have never been asked to take my shoes off in someone else's home, Nor have I asked anyone to remove their shoes if they come to visit.

The kids take their shoes off when coming in the house. They have a habit though of throwing them in the closet and leaving the door wide open which is in front of the front door. So then everyone who walks by can see into the closet if we have the front door open, drives me crazy.

DH wears work boots and will walk into the house and then take them off, not ideal but better than wearing them through the house all day. I have flip flops I wear and do go outside into the yard with them but I always have to have something on my feet because of heel pain.

When the kids were crawling and on the floor a lot we were much more careful about shoes in the house. Guests are not asked to take their shoes off, we have laminate and hard floor surfaces in all but one bedroom so they are easy to clean.

@Slick1 , I am enjoying and applauding your enthusiastic use of the word “flounce.” Love it!

I used to ask everyone to remove their shoes until I realized it was hard for some of our older and heavier family members to do so. My kids and sons-in-law do because they know I prefer it. My husband has gotten lazy about this in recent years and gets stern looks from me!

We have sloppy winters here, and most people take off their winter shoes without being asked.

Oh, that’s just appalling! I’m sorry!
When I was a kid, my grandparents brought their toy poodles to our home, we had a kennel so very animal friendly. Well, those dogs came in and promptly lifted their legs on our Christmas tree/gifts! Horrors!

Sometimes we do, sometimes we don’t... it’s more a matter of comfort than sanitation. We do a lot of outdoor stuff though so of course we’re mindful -usually- of what we’ve been doing and where we’ve been before we enter the house. And we vacuum. Frequently.

One practice we’ve started very recently, as a result of coronavirus concerns, is that we’ve set one room aside as a shoe-free “clean room.” My sweetie religiously does floor-based back exercises twice a day. He used to do them - well, wherever! We’ve had no problem keeping the “clean room” as a shoe-free zone, and it’s where we both do our exercises now.

Anyone else wear slippers, or socks with grip strips on the bottom?

I always have something on my feet except in the shower. I have arch support flip flops for warmer weather months and also LOVE my Halfinger slippers for winter.

For years I did not understand the long term consequences of wearing typical US shoes with insufficient arch support so now I am paying the price with frequent plantar fasciitis flare ups. I have a choice to make when asked to remove my shoes unexpectedly....be rude and insult my host or risk foot pain for weeks or even months for walking around unsupported. I should get some of those horrible booties to keep in the car....it would solve both problems but they are just ridiculous looking, lol.

Eta- there are other reasons people may not want to remove shoes. Along with foot pain/medical issues/safety another one might be Hygiene/smelly foot issues. In that case I would definitely prefer people keep their shoes on!

I switch to house flip-flops, my mom wears moccasin-type house slippers, my husband wears shoes usually. Our backgrounds do not include the habit or cultural tradition of removing shoes upon entering our home (or any home).

While I do abide by others' customs and requests, I do not like to remove my shoes in other people's homes ... if that is their habit, it becomes my habit to go there as seldom as possible.

Toesies :kiss2:
My cats are indoor only and when I adopted them, the contract I signed said they are to stay inside. Different environments we live in lol. If my kitties were going to track muck, I'd wash their feetsies. No wonder they hate me lololol.

You and me both! Lol my cat hates when I have to wipe him down.

As for shoes in houses. In mine we have outside and inside shoes. Inside shoes are washable slippers that get washed weekly. In other peoples houses I go down to just my socks and try not to move from one spot once I sit. Im not super comfortable going barefoot in places I don't know anymore.

Nope not here in Texas.
