Hi everyone!
My fiance and I just started looking for a ring. And I have tons of questions!

I fell in love with a Tacori setting style # 2573PR7
Heres a link: http://www.tacori.com/TACORI-SRCH/ENGAGEMENT/2573PR7-A-4-1-5-/

I was sized at a 3!
I have long and skinny fingers and this dainty looking rings suits me well.

I want to put a 1.0-1.25 ct cushion cut center stone.
Has anyone had problems getting a cushion cut stone into a Tacori setting?
Is there an extra charge?

I went to my local jeweler and they have the Tacori setting listed retail at $2450 anyone know where I can possibly find this same setting somewhere cheaper?

Also when it comes to choosing the center stone, is it better to buy through a jeweler or look online for loose diamonds?

Our local jeweler quoted a cushion cut stone
1.0 ct
S1
I
cut is very good/excellent i forgot
dimensions were not as "square" as i would like it was around 5.5x6.0 ratio?? looked more rectangular
Price was $6400 but he said if we paid cash he''d give it to us for $4400

He was willing to knock off $2000 for just paying cash. He mentioned that online pricing is the best but in the end am I getting a better deal because of his discount or will I find a better quality diamond online for the same price?

Also...
Is it bad for the diamond''s girdle to be "medium to thick" "thin to thick" I know medium is ideal, I just want to know how this affects the diamond.

One more...
What is the ideal table and depth for a cushion cut, I asked my jeweler and he didn''t know.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I appreciate all your advice!!!

Hi everyone! Hi!
My fiance and I just started looking for a ring. And I have tons of questions! We've all been there, don't worry!

I fell in love with a Tacori setting style # 2573PR7

I have long and skinny fingers and this dainty looking rings suits me well. That is small. I have known some size 4s but never a size 3!! I can see why that ring would look good on you.

I want to put a 1.0-1.25 ct cushion cut center stone.
Has anyone had problems getting a cushion cut stone into a Tacori setting? I set a 1 ct. Jubilee into a Tacori setting with a head for a 1 ct. princess, no problems whatsoever. It fit right in.
Is there an extra charge? There was no extra charge for me since the head fit my stone, but Tacori can custom make a ring for your stone if they need to to get a perfect fit. Whether or not there is an extra charge for custom depends on your jeweler. If they are selling rings right out of the case like mine was, it might be a little less expensive.

I went to my local jeweler and they have the Tacori setting listed retail at $2450 anyone know where I can possibly find this same setting somewhere cheaper? If you are talkinng about a copy, you won't find the same setting elsewhere because there would be copyright issues but $2450 for a Tacori is actually a good price. I'm assuming the ring is white gold. I got my Tacori wedding set (see avatar on left) at Collections Fine Jewelry 1-800-779-3207

Also when it comes to choosing the center stone, is it better to buy through a jeweler or look online for loose diamonds? I bought my Jubilee loose through GoodOldGold and bought the setting and had the diamond set locally. GoodOldGold also sells Tacori so you could do the whole nine yards through them if you wish. And they sell lovely cushions and Cushettes! I have also heard that EngagementRingsDirect.com sells nice cushions. You have to do what feels comfortable to you, but I have bought several diamonds online and been very happy, especially since PS vendors give a lot more info on the diamond than your average jeweler.

He was willing to knock off $2000 for just paying cash. He mentioned that online pricing is the best but in the end am I getting a better deal because of his discount or will I find a better quality diamond online for the same price? Just a quick search--Here are a couple of cushions from GOG: $3408 and $3510 Personally, I think you would do better pricewise online but the price the local dealer has given you sounds good, if you like the looks of the stone. He probably doesn't have as good of a trade-up policy as Jonathan has, if he has one at all. Here's one more that's more ovalish looking: $4212 And a gorgeous .94 ct. Cushette (click reserve diamond to see price): Cushette $4183 These are just examples.

Also...
Is it bad for the diamond's girdle to be 'medium to thick' 'thin to thick' I know medium is ideal, I just want to know how this affects the diamond. I'm no expert, but I think the ranges you are talking about are OK. I think you should avoid Very thin or Very thick.

One more...
What is the ideal table and depth for a cushion cut, I asked my jeweler and he didn't know. Again, not being an expert, I don't think that there is an "ideal" for a cushion, although some might prefer a smaller table to a larger table. My Jubilee has a large table at 70% but I like it. I think it makes the stone look bigger. You have to go by how the diamond looks. Of course, vendors like GOG can evaluate the light performance of a cushion. You should at least watch some of Jonathan's videos on cushions to educate yourself. I think one of the the cushions I listed above has a video.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I appreciate all your advice!!!

Congrats on your upcoming engagement. I am also a size 3 (well 2.75) but close enough and can understand how it is difficult to find settings. If I had to take a guess, I wouldn''t think there is a problem getting a cushion into that setting as long as the size and dimensions are consistent with the stone it is made for. A rectangular cushion may not fair as well in it. A square shouldn''t be a problem.

First of all, I highly recommend you educate yourself on cushions before walking into a store to make the purchase. There is lots to be learnt about this specific cut. For example, what is the difference between cushion brillant versus cushion modified brillant? What are chunky cushions? What is the difference between 4 main and 8 main? If you do a search on the forum, I am sure you will find all the answers.

Assuming the price listed above is just for the diamond - I am sorry to say that the price for the diamond is really inflated. I did a search through the online vendors and the price was between $1800 to $3000 for a diamond with similar specs. The price can go up to $3500 if you are looking for special branded diamonds or signature lines.

Girdle of "medium to thick" and "thin to thick" should not be a problem at all. I just avoid extremes but they should be ok most of the time.

I generally like smaller tables (low to mid 50s) and depths in the mid 60s. However, there are a variety of combinations that could work.

Recommendation - get educated on PS then start your search again.

Great choice! I am eyeing the same setting! Isn''t just so pretty and vintage-y? My fingers are bigger than yours so I''m not sure if the setting will look like it''s suppose to on my fingers. I was also considering a cushion cut. You should look into a h&a cushion that will give you the same effect as the round cut, but with the square cushion shape.

hi xoxo! congratulations on your upcoming engagement! it''s such an exciting time to pick a ring and stone and have it look all pretty on your size 3 finger!

the setting you picked is gorgeous and i think it''s fantastic you picked tacori! i picked the 2623 myself, and i love it!

in terms of fitting a cushion into the ring, tacori will custom make the setting for you if the stone will not fit into its normal setting. since the setting already fits a princess, you could get away with fitting the cushion into it. otherwise, you will have to get a custom setting done. my fiance and i had to do this because we used 2 OMC stones as side stones instead of RBs, and we had to wait almost 2 months for the setting to be completed. and they will charge you (we were charged something like $500 - $250 per side stone). but in the end it was worth it because the ring is just so beautiful

also, i learned a LOT about cushions from all the experts here at PS, and i would strongly suggest looking at other cushion stones before deciding on the one you want. they are all so different (even if their facet structure is the same), and numbers really don''t say much, so you have to go with what your eyes see, and pick a stone that really sings to you :) i''m still in search of mine... and definitely buy online! esp as a pricescope member, you can get discounts through many vendors and the money you save can go into a matching wedding band :)

best of luck! can''t wait to see the ring on the SMTR forum :D
