Kaleigh - similar rings with the same feel would be great!! I am so grateful for the advice. You speak the truth - buying a high end ring comes with a price tag indeed. I will attempt a negotiation on price, but will not be dissapointed if there is no budging.

I have been hell bent to find antique style rings as beautiful as Tacori, but for those of you that have many more years of searching - the advice is welcome!

Are you seeing my posts about Sister''s Jewelry???

Bling Diva, you are amazing!

Yes I am. I have just sent a e-mail to them about my situation.

One problem is that I am working under a very tight schedual. I must have the ring in my hand before the last weeknd in July. That is a tight fit considering Tacori asked for 3-4 weeks to make the ring special for the half carot.

Because of my time line, I feel like I almost have to stay local. I can have the diamond in by the end of this week and the ring ordered then as well. This will be cutting it mighy close.

Most vendors use overnight shipping, but you can at least use Sister''s price to deal with your local jeweler.

Thanks. I am hoping for a reply ASAP. I will be going by the jewler tomorrow around lunch to do the ordering and get the ball rolling. Sometimes you just cant be perfect and pay the perfect price when you are in a time crunch. Having this ring at the right time is more important to me than paying a few hundred dollars less.

Thanks for the help. I will look to bargian with the best of them.

Bling Diva - I love those pictures and I''m so glad that is the ring I have chosen. For any of you wanting to see more pics - use her link on the first page of this Topic to see many more views. Maybe that will help some of you decide if .50 carat is too small with those prongs.

If there are no other opinions on the half carat/6-prong issue, I am moments away from ordering my diamond from Blue Nile. Thanks for those 3 links! I will be using one of them for sure. Tomorrow is bargianing day with the store, and then order time from Sisters or the local store. About 1 month away from proposal day!

Good luck to you and PLEASE let us know what happens! Then we''ll want to see a picture of the finished ring!

One big warning, though. When you have a ring custom ordered, we do see examples of timelines not being met. So emphasize this very strongly to your jeweler. That is the only thing that makes me a little nervous about this situation.

I am also nervous about the timeline - However, Tacori quoted the jewler the exact day they would have the ring back in the store. The local jewler has also been all over my cell phone with calls trying to get me to order this if I want it on time. That makes me hopeful.

Great! Remember to post pictures for us! Tacori makes very beautiful rings!

I would still inquire about using 4 prongs. The ring will not be any less ornate if you do this.

I personally prefer 4 prongs on stones under 1 carat too.

ETA: nevermind, ring won't work with stone..

I''d rather see you put the money towards the stone and put it in a simple 4 prong setting. Tacori settings are expensive and since you''re a college student, I''d put what you can into the stone and spend less on the setting. JMHO

I disagree. Some women are size/center stone people, some are setting/total picture people. I personally am a setting girl. I would and probably did get a smaller stone in order to get the setting I really loved. There is obviously no right or wrong to this situation but it sounds like your GF is in love with the Tacori and completely happy with a 1/2 ct. I am pretty sure they will adjust the head however you want. My setting for example was made for a RB but put a custom head on it for a EC. I think it would look fine in a six prong but if you are worried go with the four.

Get the setting she wants and go through a jeweler that has a good upgrade policy. Good luck!

bigtex. if you and your gal absolultely love the tacori with the six prongs. you should get it. However, you mentioned that see likes antique with engraving and I saw this actual antique ring that is very lovely.

A very pretty 1920''s circa diamond semi mount made in 18kt white gold with .25ct of single cut diamonds. Needs a 6mm center stone and is a 5 1/2
Price: $600.00

Sorry I missed this thread, but thank you BlingDiva for posting my ring! I got all excited when I saw it really was my ring BigTex was describing!

BigTex - I think it is wonderful that you have decided to go with the setting. I absolutely love mine and very happy DH bought it. He too was faced with the do i get the setting we both love and a smaller diamond or bigger diamond and simple setting. He said he wanted me to enjoy everything about the ring right then and there... I did and still do. I would not have wanted him to change a thing.

Personally, Im a 6-prong girl... i love the way it keeps the diamond round. I do not think the prongs on my ring overwhelm the stone and from a distance blend in very well. My stone is .75, but I think your .50 will look great too. There is a neat little thing about this ring that I never noticed until after I got it (and stared constantly)... the top of the crown (where the prongs start up towards the diamond) is a little wider than the diamond, so it creates the illusion of a larger stone. I''ve attached a picture that best shows this... the red circle is roughly the edge of my diamond, everything else is the platinum. It all blends together so well... many people think i have a full carat stone.

This thread has a few more pics of my e-ring along with my wedding band I decided to have custom made. The matching wedding band from Tacori was going to cost roughly the same as the ering setting and was just an engraved band. For me, it was about $400 less to make my wedding band, although I was able to use family diamonds, so no cost there, but still, Id rather pay $1200 and get some diamonds than $1200 for just a platinum band. A nice plain 2mm band looks fantastic too... one day I plan on buying one, maybe two to switch around.

Good luck and I hope you get the ring in time. Not to make you panic, but it did take about 2 weeks longer for my ring to be ready. Also, just so you know, you can send the ring back to Tacori and they can remake the head for a larger stone (for a fee), if one day you all would like to upgrade. Laney had this done in the fall I believe.

Please post pics when you get it!!!!!!
