Hello all! I have only posted a few questions when I was searching for the perfect diamond a few months back. I have since purchased, ordered, and received my Tacori 2620. It is a beautiful ring and the diamond is stunning. But.....

When I opened my package this past Wednesday night when it arrived, the first thing I noticed was a strange "blemish" on the side of the shank. At first, I thought that it may have been grime/grease left from the polishing process. It appears very similar to an ink blot. Like when you write with blue ink on a piece of paper and then a drop of water lands on the ink. It appears blueish/purple.

Last night, I cleaned the ring. I soaked it in hot water with a cap full of dish soap. I then brushed gently with a baby toothbrush. Still there. Wrong soap? I heated a new glass of hot water and added jewelry cleaner and repeated the process. No change. So, I left it to air dry on a soft paper towel.

This morning, admiring the ring in the bright sunlight, I saw a new "blem". At the base of the basket where the shank meets, I saw what appeared to be a brownish "rust" spot. I used a Q-tip and rubbed at this new spot. I was able to remove a portion of the spot, but not entirely. This isn''t rust is it?! My GF wears a cheapy (Zales) white gold promise ring and cleans it with the same technique. We have never had an issue with brown "rusty" spots.

I understand that Tacori pieces are quality, hand crafted pieces. This is one of the reasons my GF fell in love with the setting and company. I understand that hand crafted = imperfect = character. We love character. But any ideas what the blue spot and the new brown blem are? Any ideas how to resolve?

I emailed the vendor, GOG, this morning and have yet to hear back. But, I likely caught them after everyone left for the weekend--different time zone and all. GOG and Sarah have been wonderful so far!

Advice is greatly appreciated!

Kevin

Pictures to come.

Is this a white gold setting? From the look of the pictures that you provided, I think it is white gold; and the white plated gold starts to give way. If this the case, you might have to plate it again. I hope we can more opinion from other jewelry experts

And I forget to mention, the metal is 18K WG, if that matters for the above issues.

I don''t think you should have to replate it right out of the box though...

Hello,

I cannot see your "rust spot" but I can see the "ink blot" for sure.
It sounds as if you have done the correct things in trying to clean these.

I''m sorry I don''t have any insight into what they could be, except a guess that perhaps the rhodium was not performed 100% correctly and is causing these blemishes?

I understand your concern and would also be disappointed with a new ring showing these spots..

However, with GOG you are in good hands. It is possible Jon may see this over the w''end, otherwise I''m sure they will get back to you with a resolution after they re-open on Tuesday.
Try not to worry, I''m sure it will be resolved. And please do re-post and let us know what was causing the issue, I would be interested to learn.

Gorgeous ring and congrats btw!

So sorry for the frustration. Rest assured that Jon or Marie at GOG will resolve the situation. I am shocked that the ring was not fully inspected prior to it being sent to you. I would ask GOG for Tacori to offer a discount for the mishap and inconvenience.

How frustrating to have something like that on your new ring. I am sure GOG will make it right. The ring is lovely.

We sure will. Give a buzz on Tuesday and ask for either Sarah or Marie and we''ll take care of any shipping etc. as well to make it right.

Jonathon will take good care of you. Jonathon, from the pics hard to say but was wondering if you''d do an acid bath?? I had a similar problem with a ring, and sent it back to the jeweler and the acid bath took care of it... Just curious.

Thanks everyone for the input. And thank you Jon for your reassurance!! GOG has been wonderful to work with--questions are always answered in a very timely manner and super helpful. (I didn''t know what to expect when the ring arrived--this has been my first real diamond purchase--but I was surprised to see the detailed information they provided about my stone. I was VERY IMPRESSED with the quality! The diamond is a beautiful H&A. I have no fears about GOG fixing the issue.

So does everyone think that the issue is the rhodium plating? Has anyone ever had a similar issue? I don''t have much experience with jewelry so this is new to me...

those are bizarre

. when the plating started coming off my 18k wg ring, it was a very, very light shade of cream that - while certainly tinted - was really very faint - not like that.

you''re in good hands, though, they''ll make it right for you

I''m sorry to hear about the minor glitch, but it''s a gorgeous ring, and I''m sure they will get it taken care of right away. I love the setting!
