TACORI

I have a quick question for all you setting gurus.

Say I have a setting in mind that my soon to be FI would like to have, the setting she has tried on is for the "Petite" setting, but after getting a stone...we would be required to get the "Medium" setting because it too large to fit in the "Petite" setting.
OK, here is my question, The only change between the settings would be that the head would be bigger correct? I do not want the shank to be any bigger in width.

What do yall think??

I have no idea what is the petite and medium setting.

Please elaborate.

Supposedly, if the diamond you are putting in your setting is over a certain carat weight & size then you would have to get a medium setting.

Oh, I think you are referring to the basket size (the place where the diamond sits). Okay, clear now.

As for the shank getting thicker, I''m sorry to say I have no idea. It''s best to call the vendor and clarify.

Someone here had the same question a while ago. See this thread. You might want to contact Tacori or the vendor to be sure. It is true that some rings have to be made especially for the particular size of your diamond.

Lyra....the thread that you referred to is not coming up. Do you have any suggestions on how to find that thread??

I''m going to guess that it depends on the company. I know at Tiffanys, I tried on a .80 Legacy and then I tried on a 1ct Legacy and the shank was bigger. The band was slightly wider. The salesperson said after the 1ct mark they make them larger to support the stone. But it wasn''t very noticiable. I think we only noticed because we had them side by side.

tacori and several other designers do make the bands of the rings bigger with a larger carat center stone so it is strong enough to support the diamond, it''s not only the head of the ring that''s bigger..

Do you think it would be a substantial differnce (the shank)? The reason why I am asking, I have already ordered the ring & it should be here in the next couple of days....I started thinking about it, I didnt ask the salesperson what actually changed when he changed it to Medium setting. I know, that she liked that the shank was dainty/petite..

I hope I didnt mess up....geeeez

Hmmm...We ordered a tacori ring a few weeks ago and we didn''t specify petite or medium. It wasn''t even a choice on the order form. I wonder if it depends on the setting.

I dont know, if you go to the wesite.....some settings say they come in petite OR medium.....other settings don''t say anything.

Well then I would presume that the selection (i.e., medium or petite) would be based on the carat size and that they could guide you in selecting the setting that''s most appropriate for your stone.

Duh..I just read your initial posting. Seems to me that they should be able to articulate the specific difference to you.

normally the differences b/t the petite versions and the regular or med..are just a couple of mm...like the petite might be 2mm or 2.2 and the med will be 2.5. you can easily call a tacori dealer and just ask the difference b/t the two widths...

OK....I got answers & I feel much better!!!! Just got off the phone with the jeweler & he called Tacori, the difference in the shank for the setting we are getting in Petite 2.00mm & Medium 2.2mm, so all in all .2mm. I think I can live with that & futhermore I dont think you can really tell the difference with that with the naked eye!!

& mrssalvo.....you pretty much hit the nail on the head!!!

Thank You All for you answers and easing my pain and suffering at a time of confusion!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a Tacori setting that I liked a lot that came in two sizes, and I had the same problem. It had a side diamond on either side of the center stone and was beautiful. But the larger one was just too blingy for me, but my diamond would require the larger setting. Hopefully you setting will be fine!

Great! Out of curiosity, which setting did you purchase?

Go to a Tacori dealer and ask to see the setting in a MED and Petite setting, side by side.
My Tacori setting is a medium and the basket is a little different (it has 3 ''petals''. the Petite only has 2 petals)
but the shank is not thicker.
hope this helps
