Table size v. HCA score

Hi all,

First post here. This forum has been extremely helpful for me and my soon-to-be-fiance as we search for a diamond for my engagement ring, so thank you so far.

We think we've found the one, and as excited as we are, I am hesitant on this one area -- the table is 60%. I originally kept the search in the 57% area, but I realized I was finding diamonds with awesome HCA scores when we stopped limiting that.

The impression I've gotten so far is that diamonds with an HCA under 2 are pretty reliable, and differentiation within that is personal preference. Correct me if I'm wrong there. Any red flags jump out overall on this one? We are buying online and will not see it first. I know that's not a popular method here, but we're ok just sending it back if it ends up being a dud. Just trying to do as much research up front to prevent that because even though it's not a big deal in the end, I don't want to drag the process out or go through the emotional roller coaster of excitement and disappointment! Appreciate any comments or help anyone can offer!

It may well be a solid performer - well-cut 60/60 diamonds, with their larger tables and shorter crowns, tend to be bright with a lot of brilliance (white light return) and somewhat less fire (colored light return), as compared with the more typical Tolkowsky diamond.

In my own experience, I have seen (and purchased) a couple of gorgeous 60/60 diamonds... as long as your vendor has a solid return policy, from the numbers it sounds like it would be worthwhile for you to purchase that diamond and examine it carefully and under all the various lighting conditions you would most often wear it.

The basic numbers are promising. Also a candidate for AGS0 performance depending on rounding, minor facets and details of cut consistency.
