Symmetry of diamond changing after setting?

Hey everyone, after much trial and tribulation I made my diamond purchase and proposed...and she said yes!

However, I was looking at the ring the other day and noticed something strange - the diamond appears much less symmetrical to the naked eye than it did when loose. Is this normal? (realize it could be the prongs or something else in the setting)

This is a GIA XXX diamond with excellent polish/symmtery, and it scored 1 on the Holloway Cut Advisor. The setting is a four-prong Trellis with sidestones. Thanks in advance for the help!

probably an optical illusion with the setting of the stone or the stone is not set right.

Mounting does not affect the symmetry of the diamond. Perhaps your perception of it (which would be incorrect), but not otherwise.

The above posters are all correct when they say mounting would not change anything (optical illusion perhaps).

I did want to note that the symmetry grade on a lab report deals only with facet shaping and external factors. It does not address the diamond's reflective internal "optical symmetry" or 3D contrast pattern seen with loupe, naked eye - or in viewers like H&A, ASET etc.

This may have nothing to do with your observations but I thought it worth a mention.

I''m going to assume its optical symmetry you are talking about.
If the main diamond is not level or the side stones are tilted that can lead to it looking that way.
To someone who is sensitive to it a 2 degree tilt can make it look off.
It drives me nuts when the main diamond and side stones tables are not set level with each other.
I cant get all of them to look "right" at the same time and end up tilting it back and forth....
