I thought the cut geeks would be interested in this.

"The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has found that Sarin’s DiaMension HD has the necessary accuracy and repeatability to be used to evaluate symmetry."

I would love to see some 3d models produced from it vs helium.

More information here:

This is kind of surprising to me because the older scanner/software was often showing symmetry defects that were not on the diamond in the wire view.
They must have steeped it up a notch or 2.

Cool, that is pretty amazing, thank you Karl! :wavey:

Has anyone used one or tried it out?

Sarin enjoys excellent recognition in the market, but it has been lagging behind in technological improvement of its products behind some smaller competitors who had long ago gotten ahead of Sarin in terms of accuracy and precision. The measurement of the ten symmetry factors have been available to users of other equipment for quite a while. I see there is a GIA system for round diamonds, but do they also have such a system ready for fancy shapes? All of the measures for rounds can be measured in fancy shapes with the right equipment and alternative systems for assuring high symmetry, such as EXCELLENT, are in place. So far a small but growing number of diamond industry sight holders have been looking into alternatives. When they look, they find alternative advanced equipment that equals or potentially exceeds the equipment by the major player. I use a very good Sarin scanner, but recognized that Sarin does not have a monopoly on technology or advancement in grading information.

It is an increasingly open and competitive world with the Internet connecting so many of us together in ways we never imagined even 10 years ago. It will be exciting to see advanced symmetry grading come into use and to see how it evolves.

IMO its the most accurate scanner out there today. Obviously it performs better on RB's but I definitely feel improvement in the fancy cut arena where I play =)

If you recognize it's limitation, it's an incredible tool.

Yoram, you have this model?

Yes, I had a demo trial period which was convincing enough to purchase.
