Hi All,
I just got my Engagement Ring today. I have a round brilliant in a Platinum Band. No Side stones or Pave or anything like that. I am curious can I swim with the ring without any issues? and get in a hot tub, or should I take it off? I read that white gold has more issues with the chlorine than platinum but if its a 4 prong typical setting is that ok?

You are right, white gold should not be worn in chlorine.

But if your band is all platinum I wouldn't worry about the structural integrity being affected by swimming. ***As long as it feel securely tight on your finger! :) Enjoy!

i would just be afraid to lose it in any of those situations, pool or hot tub, yikes! but i''m pretty paranoid

I wear my ring in the swimming pool all the time. it is in platinum. No problem at all.

I go swimming a few times per week and always take off all my jewelry before going in. (I leave everything at home.)

Oh dear, many moons ago when my oldest was in 1st grade, I asked all of the children to get out of the pool to find my ring. Lesson learned

eh, how scary. Did you find it?

I wouldn''t let my son go in the pool when his tooth was loose. I cannot even imagine loosing THAT in the pool, much less a diamond ring! (okay, I let him go in, but I tried pulling it out first to make sure it wouldn''t fall out while he was swimming. It didn''t come out. lol)

Eee gads, I neeeever wear my diamonds swimming. Sometimes I''ll wear my plain band, but even then it drives me nuts because I keep checking my hands to make sure it''s still there. Totally ruins a nice swim. Chemically, I don''t think there''s much to worry about - but if I lost it, I''d never forgive myself. I just wouldn''t do it. Take ''em off before getting in and make sure they''re safely tucked away inside.

LOL that''s cute MC lol
It was a stupid mistake from my part, TG one of the fathers found it in the bottom of the pool, didn''t mind the adults looking at me

I kept saying.....it''s my 7th anni band, but the kids.... silet treatment LOL

Yes, I''m in agreement with the other posters. Chlorine will not hurt the diamond or the platinum. But leave your diamond at home. Fingers can change sizes at the pool easily depending on water temperature, plus there''s the issue of slipperiness (think, sunscrren)--anyway, why risk it.

If you have some reason for bling at the swimming pool (maybe you want to look engaged so as not to get hit on with your bikini on or something) wear a fake! I have a couple of Cz rings for situations where I think my real rings might easily get lost (as I like to look married at all times).

If you are swimming in the ocean you are going to find your finger shrinking due to the salt water. I lost my first wedding ring that way. I really loved that ring too, my wife had it custom made for us when we lived in Brasil. Sigh.

In a cold swimming pool I would expect the same thing to happen.

I would not expect the hot tub to damage your platinum, but it will slip off more easily when it is wet, so do be careful!

Wink

Thanks for all the responses. After seeing how beautiful my ring is (I know Im biased :) ) I could never imagine taking it any chemicals and possibly losing it, so I will use all of your advice and just know if I forget to take it off, its ok, but ultimately I will store it safely away from the pool.

Thanks!

Your ring will be fine, just make sure your fingers don''t shrink too much in cold water and allow your ring to slip off!

I lost my mother''s ring once when i was swimming in the beach. From that moment on, NEVER AGAIN!
