Ugh Ohh...I can't believe I forgot to turn the pool on. It is some where around 25° and well, I had all day to prepare.

I have a plastic bottle of alcohol in the skimmer. (Don't really know why...someone told me that long ago). Took the lid of the pump basket skimmer so it is open there, and then turned the multiport valve to backwash thinking the filter would also be open and have room to expand.

If anyone knows or has further advice or correction to what I have done, please advise.

The temp has been too low most of the day...I tried approx. 8 gallons of hot water and got the valve loosenend and thought I got everything else loose enough. Turned on pump got my normal pressure, heard a quiet pop and began to smell hot motor. Turned it off instantly. Obviously I was over working the pump/motor because it is FROZEN and I of course am a MORON.

The temp will be up to 42 tomorrow, it is just getting through the night that I need help with. I now have a frozen sheet of ice surrounding the pool equipment. A heater isn't an option. Any one think I have to remove the filter plug? Or the plug at the bottom of the pump skimmer? They both won't budge...and "My man is tucked away on a long winters nap"... so it is little ol me against old man winter. But if I had some insight that it was necessary...I would work on getting them loose.

Any takers...step right in...come on!!!! The water is fine! Really. (

) Please??? §

FORGOT to add: It is an inground pool.

Ok then...so what you are saying is...gotcha. Alrighty. Thanks for nothing. I mean absolutely nothing. Not one taker. Just a bunch of gawkers. Well, I never. I oughtta take my little frozen pool and play with kids who care. Who love me. Because well, it is apparent you all stayed snug in your warm beds while I was out in the frozen cold worrying about my pool.

I will remember this in the summer. When you want to come over an splash around in my crystal clear cool refreshing pool. Yes indeed. I won''t forget. Not me.

Darn, I have no suggestions since we don't have a pool! I just want to say I am sorry and hope a pool owner chimes in and you get your pool back in order

My grandmother''s pool froze, but it was because of a power outage and it was over a week before they could turn the heat back on and the whole thing cracked and had to be replaced.

I didn''t really want to tell you that, but that''s all I know about pools freezing.

good luck!

Sorry, DKS, we don''t have a pool either so I have no advice. All I can say is "damn, where is that poolboy when you need him most?" I hope you were able to remedy the situation. All I could think of was using some sort of heater to melt the ice out of the valves/works/etc. but you mentioned that is not an option.

DKS, hope you have it fixed by now. We have a pool too, but the only problem we get is a frozen sheet of ice on top of the pool, if it is really cold out. We keep the filter pump on to keep the water circulating

Awh thanks everyone. I hope you read my second entry as a joke. I realized my post would have limited response. You had to live in a cold climate...you had to have a pool...and you had to be up walking the floor as I was into the wee hours.

I think my pump got whacked. Could be worse. The motor could have also...but it is still good. The problem is I can''t take if off. It is a man thing. And you see...I can''t... I just can''t tell the mister. I just can''t . I am miserable. The equipment is a brand not serviced in my city...so there is no pool man to call.

I think I may have to go back home to mother. But alas...could there be hope... I wonder if I have some mess up credit do? My column should be pretty full. I mean...well, golly. Thanks again for all your concerned posts. §

We have a pool, but we just had it put in, in August, so I don''t know anything about it at all. The temperatures here get pretty cold as well, today is 27 degrees F. But around here it is normal to close the pool for the winter.

We had our pool guy close the pool in November before temperatures got too cold here. He emptied out half of the water, removed all the water out of all the pipes, the filter and the heater, added a bunch of chemicals to the pool, and then he put a put the pool cover over the pool.

I didn''t even know you could keep the pool open when the temperatures are really cold. I thought everyone closes their pool in the winter time.
