Okay, I''m close to making a decision, sorry to bother everyone.

I''m thinking about a new diamond, and hadn''t given too much thought about the setting. I have access to a family ring that is currently set with approximately the same carat weight as what I was thinking, RB. It''s a platinum halo setting, with gorgeous pointed prongs (think Leon Mege, but not double-claw).

I spoke to a jeweler about swapping out the existing stone in the family ring for a new stone. She said she "wasn''t sure" if it would work, or if the existing setting would be damaged.

Does this sound kosher? The existing stone and potential new one are within 0.2 mm in diameter, and there''s an "air line" between the existing stone and halo, so there''s some room to play within the halo. Would a reset require replacing the prongs? Damage the pave on the halo? What would be the concerns about swapping stones? Just wondering if it is within the realm of possibility and I need to find a new jeweler.

I recently had my stone put in a new setting. When the jeweler took the stone out of the old setting, one of the prongs broke. I didn''t tell him before hand to try and preserve the old setting. I''m not sure if he would have been more careful or if it was even possible to take the stone out without damaging the prongs. I would definitely talk with a couple of jewelers before letting anyone touch that beautiful halo setting!!!!! Do you have any pics of it???? It sounds gorgeous!!!!!!

I have had nothing but problems with resetting stones in to different settings. Fractured stones, illusions settings ruined, ect.

Then i found a really good jeweler. He has no problem with anything I want to do. His skill has made all the difference and I now trust no one else.

Get a TRUE Master Jeweler and you experience the difference.
