i always bake something for BF's family members' birthdays, and since his brother is a huge fan of sushi, i thought it would be neat to make cupcakes that resembled it. i got inspired by the very talented Bakerella to make them into bite-sized "pops" instead.

i used basic yellow cake with cream cheese frosting, and molded them to resemble sushi. i stuck some lollipop sticks into them, chilled overnight and then dipped them in melted chocolate. after the chocolate firmed up, i frosted the tops with a little icing and dipped them in white nonpareils. i then topped them off with some cut up sour gummy worms and voila - sushi cake pops!

Those are AMAZING!!!! You''re so talented vip, and what a lovely way to honor BF''s brother! What did you use for the molds?

BTW, are you going to Intergem next week?

I had "sushi" dessert at my bridal shower last summer. They were spectacular!!

The little pieces of "fish" you see are really dried mango and pineapple!

BTW I want some of yours now too! They look great!

OMGosh...those are the cutest! If I tried to make them they would end up as lumps of gooey icing and cakes sitting at the
bottom of the sticks.

Great. Now I have the cake pop urge again. Mine never turn out that pretty!

Guess I''ll be baking soon...

YUM!!! and so cute!!!

That is way too cute and so clever! Love the idea!!! And they look super yummy too!

Those are so adorable! I love that cake lollipop recipe, don''t you? It''s so easy and so yummy. I actually just made a batch of these this week. Chocolate cake and chocolate icing, dipped in pink chocolate with white sugar glitter sprinkles...yummy! I will definitely steal your idea for these sushi ones, those are just too adorable!

Those are amaaazing!! Nice work as usual vip!

Whoa, impressive! Those look awesome and I bet they''re delicious!

Maevie, Tuckins1, princesss, Bella_mezzo, Brown.Eyed.Girl(btw, how are your kitties??) swedish bean, Porridge and thing2of2 - thank you all for the lovely comments!

cellentani - thank you! i didn''t use any molds...i just shaped them myself. they actually ended up looking like big marshmallows, but that was as close as "sushi-shaped" as i could get.

wow, i didn''t even know Intergem was next week! i would love to go, but i just don''t have the funds at the moment. i guess i could go just to browse, but that''s just torture. i believe i have a high school reunion to go to that Friday so if i do go, i might have to go on Saturday (which is kind of a pain since it''s so crowded). i''ll let you know if i''m definitely going or not this week for sure! thanks for the heads up!

rhbgirl24 - OMG they look amazing!!! the dried mango really looks like sliced up salmon! did you make them yourself? it looks so delicious!

tyty333 - aww, don''t be so hard on yourself. out of the 20 or so that i made, only those 12 came out decent enough. that melting chocolate i used was definitely very tricky to get even coated and some of them just fell straight through the stick. the mistakes were great to eat though!

jill_s - yes, i LOVE that recipe! i usually prefer making the cake and frosting from scratch, but i think it''s a super convenient way to used the boxed stuff. you can hardly tell the difference! my favorite part is mashing up the cake...it''s a great stress reliever! i actually only ended up using only half of the frosting the recipe called for, and i''m so glad that i did. i think it would''ve been way too sweet if i used it all. chocolate cake+chocolate icing AND pink chocolate?!?! ok, i think i''m going to have to try that soon.
