Any comments about this merchant. They state all diamonds are inhouse as opposed to a shared database. Intriguing considering how much selection they have.

Any experiences?

Not sure where you're reading...though I think on this...they're perhaps more straightforward than some other vendors. I think their SuperbCert diamonds are in-house, and others are not. Looking at the AGS0 princesses, for example, this may be less clear than it used to be...but I think these will have the data you want, when they call it in for you.

In the FAQs section, I read at #3...

"3. Do you own the diamonds you sell and are they in your physical possession?
Yes they are. All of our SuperbCert diamonds listed on our site are of our own manufacture and in our possession. We can therefore immediately answer any specific questions you may have and provide additional information and photos.
The database diamonds we do not own are always shipped in to us for examination prior to sale. Once the merchandise is sold, every diamond gets shipped out from our address."

ETA...I think this is even more clear when looking up one of their non SuperbCert rounds...

I noticed that Barry from superbcert used to post here but doesn''t any longer (at least under the same name). Is there a reason for this? Are they as trustworthy as before?

To me, the answer is yes. Barry is an honest vendor, though rather blunt at times. I purchased one of his rounds a couple of years back. He doesn''t post here anymore because he broke the forum rules.

Really? I was just looking at their website the other day...how did he break the rules?

Don't quote me on this but I don't think he was very nice to the other vendors when they were discussing diamonds. I think you might be able to find the thread here if you search for it.

Laplacz, we aren't supposed to post our email address here on PS for safety issues.

Dig around useing the "Search feature". THat is the best way to find good or bad experiences with most vendors.

I am in the process of purchasing a Superb Cert diamond. The whole experience has been pretty painless. Originally I was going to try to handle the transaction in person next Monday or Tuesday, but because of time constraints and a vacation coming up next week, they shipped the diamond to RocDoc from this forum to have appraised on Monday, which he received on Tuesday. Both Excel and RocDoc have been easy to work with. I haven''t even supplied a credit card number or anything up to this point, which is nice when dealing with a diamond not seen in person (not that I would know what to look for anyway). The diamond checked out great, so now I am just excited about having made my choice and moving forward with getting it set and proposing.

Thanks Chrono and Lapalcz. I will dig around.

Dude227, I''m envious of how easy the process was for you! I can''t even decide on a shape!

Well, the process was easy relative to dealing with Excel and RocDoc once I decided on a hearts and arrows ideal cut round diamond. Don''t worry, I struggled with carat/color/clarity tradeoffs trying to maximize what would be acceptable to my girlfriend without having the benefit of asking her (trying to keep it somewhat of a surprise), and picking a setting that was unique and delicate looking (I feel like the setting can make or break the ring, regardless of what diamond you choose). I seriously lost sleep at night worrying that I would choose the wrong one. This is the biggest purchase of my life outside of my condo (I don''t even own a car), and I definitely don''t want to have any regrets, and most importantly, if I am spending that kind of money, I want my girlfriend to love it unequivocally!

So no, I wouldn''t say the process was that "easy," ha...

Dude227, it''s so nice that you tried so hard to get the right stone and setting. Best of luck to you. When do you think you''ll have the finished product? And I hope you plan on posting pictures!

I''ve purchased from excel several times and it''s always been a positive experience. They were very honest when it came to looking for a well cut eye clean SI...they told me when I should pass on a stone...and when they felt I had come across a winner...amd they were spot on. They even found me an ideal cut eye clean I clarity stone, which is very rare.

I''vr purchased diamonds and settings from them. Never been disappointed.

I was told 8-10 weeks for the setting, so I figure it will take a little longer.
