Hi , i have bought and paid for my Diamond from Jame Allen , just waiting for it to be shipped , but i was wondering how do i check the inscribed number on the diamond and that it matches the GIA cert ?

I assumed i would need some kind of jewellers eye piece etc and came across these on eBay.co.uk ( i am based in the UK)

Would these be suitable at 20 x magnification ? or should i buy a higher magnification ?

30x would probably be the best for easiest reading.

Yup, at my age I need 30X or >.. ::)

I use 10x but if you're farsighted, 20x or 30x is easier.

Your stone is ~0.5ct, right?

The inscriptions will be easier to read on stones with thicker girdles (girdle thickness is reported as a percentage of diameter, so larger stones will have thicker girdles, in mm, given the same reported thickness). I need x20 to read the inscriptions on my 0.4 RBs.

Magnification is only one factor.
There's also resolution, lighting, not to mention the viewer's eyesight and skill/technique.

You can pay from $3 to $500+ for a 10x loupe.
Guess which reveals more detail.

I can read my laser inscriptions just fine with my Harald Schneider 10x loupe, using good technique and manipulating the light.

I have to use a 20x loupe to see mine. I had a GIA graded diamond that was incredibly difficult to see even with the 20x, but possible. On my AGS diamond, the inscription is easy to see with the 20x loupe.

Do you know for sure it has the inscription on the stone? Many do not have it.

I couldn't see mine even with a 30x loupe. I took it to look at it under a microscope and then I could see it. Good luck seeing yours, I have old eyes.

I have problems reading mine even under a microscope at the store.

I've tried using many different loops and never could find the inscriptions on my stones even thou my vision is 20/20.
