Hey PSers, I just got the CAD of my double halo yellow diamond ring. I don't think I have a good eye for the CAD images, so I am here again asking for your suggestions and help! I really appreciate it for any input!

the two things I don't like about it right away are:
1. the shape of the halos are too square. I like more rounded corners and bowed edges;
2. it doesn't show any enhancement cup to enhance the color of the yellow diamond.

my questions:
1. what is your suggestions on other revisions?
2. my stone is fancy yellow with a lemonade face up color. is there a specific way to make the enhancement cup?
3. I would like the ring look as alike tiffany soleste as possible, how do you think the ring should be revised based on this goal?

Thanks again PSers! looking forward to hearing from you!

Who is the jeweler? You definitely need to discuss the cup idea with them. Did you tell them that before they did the CADs?

Yes, halo needs to be a little more cushion shaped. Shank should be more rounded including the inner edge. Did you provide them with pictures of the Soleste? Because I don't think they are very close to it.

Diamondseeker2006 thank you so much for the suggestion. To be honest I'm pretty disappointed after seeing the cad pics. Yes I talked to them before about the cup but they might forget.

How do u think of the sitting(is this the right term?) should the stone sit a little higher? Lower? Just perfect?

Thx a lot!

I agree with the things you have pointed out (too square, yellow cup). The only other thing that I might consider (if it were me),
maybe taking the split on the shank further down so that from the top view you can see more of the split.(keep the lovely
curves on the shank though). I guess it depends how much you want to show the split shank though.

This is a case of trying to have a ring look like a hand forged piece, using cast methodology.
It's important to remember that certain aspects of hand forging are never truly replicated in the cast.
Things like the true claw prongs, and "delicate" look. The extruded wires of a hand forged ring simply look different than metal cast into that shape.
Having said that a cast ring can be gorgeous- but if you're expecting hand forged results, you may be disappointed.
Another positive aspect to a CAD is that you can specify the finer details- with hand forged you have to leave it up to the jewelers and setters.

Personally I don't like "cupping" the bottom of any diamond.

Hi Rockdiamond, thanks for the input! what do you mean that the diamond shouldn't have any "cupping"? im confused because I think yellowed diamonds will benefit from a cup to enhance colors. is it possible you explain a little? and for this fancy yellow diamond, how could the color be enhanced if we don't use cup? any suggestions? thx!

Guess I'm odd man out here, I think it looks pretty good, I do see where it's more square shaped than the soleste so you could address that if you want a more curved look. I think the profile looks good, and I like the height. I also like the length of the split shank.

I'm not really that crazy about the idea of completely encasing the diamond in a cup, I like being able to access the diamond for cleaning. I don't think David can comment about his own pieces, but I notice he seems to have a partial cup on some of his rings to enhance the color of the stone. It looks like the diamond is still somewhat exposed. It's hard to explain, here's a pic -
David, hopefully you can confirm whether I'm correct without getting in trouble with Ella :cheeky:

Oh dear…I feel badly now, because you don't seem happy with it PSN! I hope you can tweak the setting to where you like it a bit better!

I agree - my initial reaction was that overall the CADs looked pretty good (although I agree with rounding the halo edges just a bit). I don't have experience with a cup, but I would be concerned with not having the ability to properly clean the ring and for that reason alone, I would probably steer clear of a cup that made cleaning more difficult.

Hey JuneBug17, don't feel bad at all :) there are only two things I don't like, and they are easy fixer. so i'm still optimistic about the project! it takes a while to figure things out, both me and the setters. I will give follow up :)
