I''m just wondering what designers I should target for a (relatively) reasonbly priced lace gown. Trying to keep it ~$3,000 or so...

Bonus points if the dress is not strapless...I''m "pear" shaped and I feel like having straps of some sort "balances" me out.

Jim Hjelm makes divine lace gowns but I dont know if he has in that range..You could try pre owned JH or Monique Lhlullier...

mine''s anjolique 708; i''m wearing it strapless but it comes with detachable spaghetti straps. i got it for $800, although originally, it was $1800. my friend''s was GORGEOUS, and it was maggie sottero. good website, too. hope that helps!

I think Marisa has some under that amount. I tried on a few of hers with Alencon lace and they were really pretty!

Pronovias! They make beautiful lace gowns and I think most are under $3000, though I could be wrong.

Also, it looks like Paloma Blanca has a few gorgeous lace gowns. Like this one, listed on Brides.com as $1500-$3000:

What''s the ''feel'' of your wedding rockzilla?

And how to you want to feel?

Do you know what silouettes are the most flattering for you? A-line, fit and flare, trumpet, ballgown??

my friend wore a beautiful lace gown by watters(?) and the price was ~$1,000.

I was going to suggest JH too, I just LOVE his lace designs!!!!

Musey - the "feel" of our wedding...let''s see...

We are having the ceremony in a beautiful stained glass chapel and the reception afterwards at an outdoor estate location overlooking the hills and ocean in Malibu. It will be formal/semi-formal I would say...

I know a-line is the most flattering on me - it seems a lot of the lace dresses out there are trumpet or mermaid shaped, and I need something that flares out a bit more. I saw the Melissa Sweet valentina in a magazine that looked lovely (attaching photo- unfotunately I couldn''t find the more real-sized magazine photo, this one is on an emaciated runway model) The magazine also had the dress without that silly looking boob flower.

I want it to feel pretty and romatic, but I don''t really want beading, just lace. I''m also not a huge fan of the big flowing train (unfotunately, my mom is!) I''m really tall (5''10") so as long as I''m able to disguise my hips I''m generally pretty happy with how I look.

I''m not kidding when I say I''m pear-shaped though...think size 4/6 up top and size 8/10 for pants...yikes!

Shannon- that is beautiful! Is it available without the sash?

Maggie Sottero does have a few pretty ones with lace....they would definately be under $3000. Good Luck!

you''re like my tall sister... i''m petite, but i''m about a size 2/4 on top and 6/8 on the bottom. so i hear you! i wore a marisa gown and would highly recommend you try that line. i ended up with non-lace (my pics are posted today), but i tried on several marisa lace gowns, too, and really loved them. in fact, my final decision was between the one i got (obviously) and one with an identical silhouette, but in lace. hope that helps.

Hey Rockzilla,

Thanks! Yes, I''m 99% sure I''m going sashless. Some people think it''s "mermaid" by the way the model is laying down, but it''s actually a slim A line. It''s fitted through the hips, but not as tight at trumpet or mermaid type gowns.

Check out JH gowns, they have some with straps, if I recall.

My Jim Hjelm (#8663) was around $2k.. I ordered from Pearl''s Place, retail was more like $2800, if I remember correctly.

It''s more of a trumpet than an a-line, but it''s a pretty forgiving one. I''m kind of pear-shaped too (size 0-2 top, size 4 bottom), but I think the straps kind of balance it out and the sash defines my waist.

Definitely check out Amy Kuschel: www.amykuschel.com. She has a number of French lace designs that are not strapless. The Alexandra and Lauryn gowns are both within your price range.

Here''s the Lauryn gown.

Thanks liz - I actually was at Amy Kuschel just last week and tried on the alexandra (I think the lauren was too straight up and down) I also really liked the Ingrid, which is also in my price range --- but for some reason I am stuck on the idea of an allover lace dress, which takes you $4k and up at AK

Those are so beautiful though!!

Have you checked out Augusta Jones (www.augustajones.com)? She also has a number of gorgeous lace gowns that are not strapless. Very affordable too compared with other designers.

Thanks Liz- I will check it out!

Rockzilla, I tried the following dress on. If I remember correctly, it is at the top end of your budget...but, oh, was it gorgeous! Quite honestly the most comfortable dress I tried on. The front has a lovely sweetheart neckline, and the train! Not to short, and most of the lace on the ground was just the lace, no lining. Loved it, but it was out of my budget!

ETA: I am pretty pear-shaped, too, and it was really flattering.

I saw you pic in the other thread. With your shape, something with a well defined waist will make you look curvy, not bottom heavy. I think something like the dress below could really look amazing on you.
