Hello everyone! I am a long time lurker and decided it''s time to start my 1st post. I will be in Chicago in July for a week and would like to know if it''s worth buying the Go Chicago Card ( 3 days $ 98.99) or city pass ( $ 69).

I think it partly just depends on what you want to do while you''re there. If you''re an art person, the city pass doesn''t include either of the art museums (art institute and museum of contemporary art) which may make a difference for you, although granted neither are terribly expensive. The city pass seems nice that you can use it over a larger chunk of time so you wouldn''t feel as rushed.

My suggestion would be to look at the Chicago card options and maybe make a list of your top 5-7 choices of what to do and if most of those are on the city pass, I''d get the city pass instead and pay for the one or two attractions not included. Also note that the city pass includes admission to many of the special exhibits at some places which can add up.

IMO the must sees while you are there are:

Shedd Aquarium
One of the observatories (Hancock or Sears Tower)
Museum of Science and Industry
Art Institute

Most of which are included in the city pass so I guess for me that''d be the better option but it really depends on what your priorities are.

I''ll defer to Chicago residents re: passes. But, if you have the time and are an architecture buff, Chicago is the place to be. Don''t forget about FLW''s Robie House and his collection of prairie homes in Oak Park. I''ll also second the museums along Lake Shore Drive. Have a good time!

I am not familiar with either of the passes...but I would suggest...

-Shedd Aquarium
-Field Museum
-Michigan Ave
-Navy Pier
-Lincoln Park Zoo (it''s free!)
-Tempo for breakfast
-Rosebuds for dinner
-Lincoln Park in general is great for shopping, walking around
-Evanston is a great day trip (not far) but offers a great downtown area...if you make it, stop at Joy Yees for lunch or dinner, they have the best smoothies and Chinese food!

Thank you all for your suggestions and I will talk to BF about it.

I wanted to ditto Shedd Aquarium and the Museum of Science and Industry. BF and I LOVED the latter (well we loved the aquarium too!) and actually liked it more than the Field Museum because there was more to do and play with

ETA: I don't think anyone's suggested this yet but if you have time, you should go to Second City for their main show. Hilarious!
