My FFIL just had a procedure done on his heart. He''s ok, and is recovering. I thought it would be nice to send him a little care package to let him know that our family is thinking of him. So far, we are going to send him some (healthy!) cookies, a soccer photo of his grandson, and a card. Any other ideas? I''d like to send him one or two more items that will help him on the road to recovery! Thanks!

Maybe a good book...something that will capture his interest and make the time go by...

I agree with the book!! And perhaps some relaxing music? Or maybe a movie he would enjoy?

A book is a great idea. Or maybe some magazines or a new DVD you know would love. Something to pass the time.

Thats really thoughtful! Magazines are a good idea, you can get a nice variety, sports ill., newsweek, forbes, popular mechanics, those are all the ones that my dad enjoys reading.

The sudoku books we''ve included in recent care packages have been big hits.

Maybe a blockbuster giftcard so he can pick a movie or two. I know alot of guys don''t like this sort of thing... but what about some slippers or a new robe?

When I had a procedure done on mine, what really excited me was:

-Fruit (I totally second the Edible Arrangements idea) it was healthy and I could eat as much as I want. Not sure if he has any dietary restrictions, but generally no matter what the issue is, you generally feel inspired to be healthier after heart procedures.
-Books - page turners, not anything that needs thought. If he''ll have doctors interrupting to check on him or friends calling to make sure he''s okay, you want something that doesn''t take a lot of thought to get back into.
-Movies - similar to books: something easy and fluffy
-Crossword puzzles, sudoku books - they''re great when you''re sick of being passive and you want to actually engage in something
-Granola bars. Mmmmmmmm....
-Socks. I love warm socks, and it felt great to have something cozy in the hospital
-A cozy blanket (from home or new) that I could really snuggle up in. It just felt better to not have the hospital blanket. I can''t explain why.

Thanks for the suggestions! I baked some healthy, uber-delicious oatmeal raisin cookies (from allrecipes.com) and nabbed a funny movie. It''s going out today, so here''s hoping he gets it quickly and recovers even quicker.

I hope he recovers quickly and is back on his feet in no time!

I agree, something like this or a crossword is great when you''re tired of feeling so passive and bored and like your mind hasn''t been worked in ages.

What a sweet gesture on your part to send him a package. And the picture of his grandson, sure to make him smile!!

Popcorn, magazine, DVD, a pack of cards if he lives with someone.
