I am sure that this is due to the rise in the price of gold, but a recent visit to a jewelry store just brought home to me the enormous price increase in the Buccellati line of jewelry.
This revelation started when I accompanied my best friend into the Betteridge jewelry store on Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich. In a thread somewhere I have mentioned that we were watching a custom made (for someone else) Van Cleef & Arpel ring there. (My friend just bought it.) I was also drawing the inspiration from a pair of lovely earrings they sell for a pair of diamond hoop earrings. But all this is just background information.
I had worn my Buccellati Hawaii earrings to the store and since they sell that line the clerks noticed them. One actually asked if I had bought them that day and I said no, that I had had them for a couple of years. The price on the Hawaii earrings there was $5,200.00. I have since seen them on Oak Gem for under $5,000.00, but not by much.
I looked through a folder I still have on my computer and was surprised that I had not bought the earrings only, "a couple" of years ago, but in 2009. (I mean, it is now July of 2013; that was at least 4 years ago.) I know I got a very good price for the earrings when I bought them, because I bought them from someone in Italy, but I paid $2,050.00 four years ago! The price jumped $3150.00 from $2050.00 to $5200.00 in 4 years! For a little bit of 18K gold fluff that weighs nothing!
