Suddenly Struck By Buccellati Price Increases!

I am sure that this is due to the rise in the price of gold, but a recent visit to a jewelry store just brought home to me the enormous price increase in the Buccellati line of jewelry.

This revelation started when I accompanied my best friend into the Betteridge jewelry store on Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich. In a thread somewhere I have mentioned that we were watching a custom made (for someone else) Van Cleef & Arpel ring there. (My friend just bought it.) I was also drawing the inspiration from a pair of lovely earrings they sell for a pair of diamond hoop earrings. But all this is just background information.

I had worn my Buccellati Hawaii earrings to the store and since they sell that line the clerks noticed them. One actually asked if I had bought them that day and I said no, that I had had them for a couple of years. The price on the Hawaii earrings there was $5,200.00. I have since seen them on Oak Gem for under $5,000.00, but not by much.

I looked through a folder I still have on my computer and was surprised that I had not bought the earrings only, "a couple" of years ago, but in 2009. (I mean, it is now July of 2013; that was at least 4 years ago.) I know I got a very good price for the earrings when I bought them, because I bought them from someone in Italy, but I paid $2,050.00 four years ago! The price jumped $3150.00 from $2050.00 to $5200.00 in 4 years! For a little bit of 18K gold fluff that weighs nothing!

Yeah, I've been aware of the rise in prices...they have a ring that I adore, but it's over 15K (now). It was 12K (give or take) a couple of years ago... ;(

Everything has taken a large price hike so although we shouldn't be shocked, we still are when it is actually staring you in the face. Custom settings are now 2x the cost of what it was compared to 2010.

The Cartier Love Bracelet was around 3k back in 2010. It is now hovering right around the 6k marker. I can't believe the price has doubled in just 3 years. :(( Dang price of gold and inflation!!

I'm so glad I built my collection up in 2009/10. The prices are so high right now I'm not even setting my unset stones! ;(

Ditto. I have consider very carefully whether I am willing to spend $X on settings so now I'm either only setting super special stones, buying second hand settings or leaving them unset.

Yes it's very annoying isn't it? I haven't bought a setting since May 2012 now. Just can't justify these ridiculous prices anymore. It's not just material costs either, I think labour costs have gone up too.

I don't think I'll be buying buccellati any time soon!

It's incredible. Even whenever gold prices come down, I doubt we'll see much decrease in these costs -- once they go up, they tend to stay there; the eventual savings don't get passed on. Most of the PS vendors are better about that, but not firms like Buccellati or Betteridge.

Deb, you made me remember the Cartier Tutti Frutti bracelet in Betteridge's window that I used to go stare at almost every lunchtime. First one I ever saw IRL & even in Greenwich it didn't sell quickly, so I had a nice long time to ogle & wish. Gosh, what a beauty.

9Yeah, funny how some jewelry prices stay high regardless of metals prices. It is difficult to buy settings now. The VanC I maybe want is around $4k. You have to really stop and think whether you are SURE you are choosing a forever setting when you get into that price range. And I'd love to have a few branded pieces such as bracelets, but gosh, the prices are so crazy.)

Deb, I think Bucellatti jewelry is amazing. But it is amazingly priced way above my range!

I would only want the stuff that starts at $40K. It's soooo beautiful. Last time we were in Paris our hotel was around the corner from Buccellati & I pasted my nose against their window every day, sighing. Fell in love with a little silver bowl, in fact, beautifully made & adorned w/elegant carving; almost sprang for it, but I already have too much darned silver to polish. I can't look at their jewelry without feeling "if you're gonna go, go BIG."
