Looking at these two solitaires...would love comments on design:

This knife edge tapers from larger at the top and smaller at the bottom:
http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/classic-tiffany-style-knife-edge-solitaire-engagement-ring-734.htm

This one does not taper, is that same 2mm all the way around:
http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/exquisite-half-round-solitaire-engagement-ring-3586.htm

This one tapers smaller at the top, to larger at the bottom:
http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/contemporary-tiffany-style-solitaire-engagement-ring-1415.htm

All three have the same head, per WF rep.
Thoughts?
Also, what's the benefit of the "donut" that seems to be on most thinner style designs today...is it just a design thing, or is there a purpose?

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

I like the second two with perhaps the last one that tapers as my favorite. What type of band would you put with it? Would the taperng affect that combined look in any way? Idk about donuts. I personally wouldn't want one as it affects the flush possibilities with another band.

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

They are all pretty, but I think I prefer the middle setting the best - same width all the way around.

This is totally a guess but maybe the donut adds a little stability to the head of the ring.

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

I think I like the middle one too because the profile seems so classy, fluid and elegant instead of looking short and squaty. That would be my pick  but since you're paying the bill :$$): , which do you like? =)

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

My first choice I was considering is the 2nd link, but all 3 are definitely pretty. And I did recently try on the Tiffany knife edge and loved.
Not sure about other purposes but I know the donut can also help protect prongs from rubbing against a diamond eternity band, which I personally like since I had a bad experience prior with my band sitting flush.

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

I wonder what the height "profile" of the shanks are? wonder if the 2nd one has a lower profile since the knife edge tapers more toward the head? Does that make sense? Like stacking bands and my wedding band may be thicker profile?

Wow! I didn't realize that. That's good to know about donuts.

To clarify, I meant that maybe the half round has a lower profile than the knife edge, since it doesn't rise toward the head as much? 1.38mm shank height is listed on the half round, but no measurement listed for the knife edge or the contemporary.

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

I prefer the first one, which is what m2b has, I believe. I think her setting is gorgeous and it is the closest to the real Tiffany setting. I have the Vatche version of the same ring. I suppose if you are not really looking for a Tiffany repro, any one them would be fine! I love the doughnut because it gives a very tiny separation between the e-ring and wedding band. I like for the two rings not to look like one wide band. It also serves to protect the wedding band from rubbing the e-ring prongs if the band sits high (which I don't recommend). Sometimes that requires a spacer band, particularly in the case of shared prong diamond wedding bands.

Ditto! DSer's Vatche Tiffany reproduction was one of the inspirations for my ring! :read:

OK...she's been ordered! Whew!
Now the wait...estimated shipping date 3/5! I shall probably die of anticipation from waiting so long :boohoo:

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

OK...maybe to keep my mind off the wait...anybody here know of a different source for a 2mm band like this? This is the Tiffany one, but would like to find it a little less $ than Tiffany's but still nicely done...

Which one did you decide upon?

Well, just like yours, of course :-) (but YG shank-Platinum head) Even told them to swap my "little" 2.538 out with a 4.5...LOL!
I did ask for the prongs to be "middle ground between rounded and claw", as...I think...that is my preference, but I keep thinking back and forth! I don't want rounded though, in between! like Goldilocks, just right! And the softened knife edge, like yours!

I AM GOING TO GO CRAZY WAITING, SERIOUSLY CRAZY!!!

Good choice! We will be sort of ring twinsies! :) Your ring will be here before you know it!

Just wanted to say I *love* this band, waiting with baited breath if anyone comes up with a less spendy one.

I would get a quote from DK since other PS'ers have found him to be reasonably priced.

Baroque--I thought you had to reuse your old wedding band no matter what?

Yes, but I thought this would look good stacked with it. I have long fingers...and really need to fill space up :-) previously, I had a wider band for my erring.

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

Exciting!!! Sounds great and I, too, love that Tiffany band. It would be cool with rose gold/platinum, too. But I know yours is YG so I can see that looking amazing.

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

I may splurge and get the Tiffany...but may need to wait a bit...I'd rather find a cheaper version...because then I can get more stackers!

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

I have that Tiffany band but in Rose gold/plat and I LOVE it. It was well worth the money spent on it.

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

Ooo.... Can you post a pic? Would love to see it. Also measurements? How tall from finger to top and then how wide from side to side? Thx! :))

I believe you can see it on her hand here, in this SMTR:

It's about 1.8mm from the finger to the top of the ring and 2mm wide :)

Re: Subtle Solitaire setting differences, comments appreciat

Thank you, baroque and ROL, and telephone! The band is really neat and could look good with many rings. I wonder about it with the platinum on the edges and the rose gold in the middle...

I don't believe Tiffany has made that combination. Perhaps contact an etsy vendor to create a piece as such? I originally had a JBEG Bella Halo and this band was perfect with it. I still plan on wearing it no matter what final setting I choose for my new diamond :)
