Subpar craftmanship :( Need advice!

Hope the next version hits your sweet spot. :)

If you do decide to recut your stone, check with Evert or Mike over at Embee Diamonds. They're located in Saskatchewan & do recuts as well. For a chip, I'm not sure I would recut. For better light performance & minimal weight loss, I may consider it.

Edited to add that David Klass in LA did that very ring about a year or 2 ago. I can't recall the posters exact screen name but she is from Toronto.

Thanks for the tips! I will check out the canadian cutting service you linked and I just checked out David Klass' instagram and his pieces are so beautiful!! I wonder how long his pieces take.. he must be so popular.

@SimoneDi Yes, quite a few hurdles.. I do have an family in Houston which would put me very close to BGD  I think I am leaning towards purchasing a setting and just mounting it locally. It's that or ring v3.0 As for the chip and prong.. the jewelers I asked are all so willing to hide it under a prong.. I wonder if it's because they're inexperienced, because it's easier for them to just do it that way, or maybe they see the chip and aren't concerned.. anyway, I'll try to get another opinion.

I want to thank you sincerely for the help and advice you offered! It has made a frustrating situation much more manageable=)2

It is no problem really, offering advice is the essence of this community:)

In relation to the chip, it is my observation that many jewelers don't necessarily think about the negative implications related to having a chip covered by a prong and namely further damage at impact. I also have a few other concerns given that your stone is not graded by GIA or AGS and that the clarity is superficially rated as SI2-I1 due to a chip! The same thing happened to me with my first diamond which had a chip. After the chip was repaired, it came back as VS1! Big difference. If something is to happen to your existing stone, it doesn't seem that you are set to get a great replacement through your existing insurance. That wouldn't bother me.

If it is possible to open a JM policy with your family's address in Houston and have the chip repaired by BGD, that would be amazing. The damage will be gone, they will ship it to get certified, the cut will be ah-mazing and they can also set the stone, or set it with someone else if you want. They also work with outside settings, so you can buy your setting from elsewhere and ship it to them to be set. You can cancel the JM policy after the exercise, they will just refund you the balance.

I understand that this is your decision and anything that you choose will be just fine, but the above is what I would do ;-)

Nothing to add re the stone/settting issues, but have you checked the GemSafe for insurance?? They were literally HALF what I was paying for JM.

Thanks for the suggestion :) I've just sent them an email to inquire about their coverage.

Check with Lavalier. They may cover. Also, if this diamond was lost tomarrow, could you afford to replace it out of pocket? If so, insurance may not be critical.
