As a newbie, I have learned much from this site, but I can still get confused..... I am doing a lot of reseaching on Emeralds, but I get confused from time to time by the way the cut quality gets classified. I have noticed more than once that a stone called "Excellent" in cut quality by one vendor is can be classified as "Fair" by another.

Then today I got an email recommendation on a stone as "the best of the group" from one vender, while another has it classified as an average cut in his site''s data base. No kidding.

Oh well.

Did you get to see the cert for this stone?? If so can you post it?

It has been said many times before that every vender can call their stones whatever they want. Thus those labels mean little as there is no defined ideal of perfection regarding this shape. I would most likely trust that the stone is only a fair.

I personally would trust few in regard to the quality of cut but learn what good numbers are myself and what good stones look like. Oh I would trust the pricescopers, as they are consumers!

If you can get an ideal-scope photo that helps.
Best still get an ASET photo and we can tell you a lot about the stone.

This is the stone called "a pick" by one, and rated "fair" by another
