I love the Casablanca 1831, but before I commit to it, and some fairly substantial alterations (I don''t like how long the train is), I''m wondering what other dresses are out there with a similar style in front.

Anyone know of any?

Just FYI, they will make a number of different train lengths for this dress and will customize things too. It was my dress and I had it made with no train and no beads. It wasn''t expensive at ALL to have it "customized" a bit.

The Pronovias Diamante is a very similar dress, I think. I believe I have seen another one from a different designer, but I can''t remember it off the top of my head.

Thanks! Can''t afford the Pronovias. Neatfreak and Angielea, did you order the dress with modifications from a bridal shop? The shop I was at didn''t offer me this option...they just talked about alterations (in the $500 range!

Watters has a couple of bridesmaid dresses in similar styles that can be ordered in white.... Style 3278, 3422, 1438.

ETA: My wedding gown was a Watters bridesmaid dress. I had it made in a long length with even more length so I could make a train. It worked perfectly!

Then go to another shop! I ordered mine from a local shop, they customized the beading and train, AND rushed it for an additional $100 (and those charges were Casablaca's charges, not the shop's). I think my total was like $650 before alterations including the rush charge which was like $60 of the $100...I had quite a bit of bodice/bust alterations and mine were nowhere NEAR $500, not even half that.

Neatfreak, what part of the country are you in? Wiondering if you''re anywhere near me (Los Angeles), those prices are great.

I will try other shops. The one I referenced quoted me $900 for the dress and another $300-$500 for alterations.

No, I'm in Wisconsin. But your price is just a crazy price for the dress IMO. I think mine was $549 or something...certainly under $600 before the extra charges.

Luckily there are MANY stores in LA that carry Casablanca, I'd call around.

ETA: I did buy mine a year ago, so prices might have gone up a bit, but here it is for $598. Maybe they will price match?

Thanks, actually the first thing I did when I came home from that store is Googled the dress and found it on the site you provided the link for. I was astounded at the price difference. It''s just easier if I can work through a full service shop and order it with the changes I want, to save on so many alterations. But that website is my backup plan if I can''t find it somewhere else for a more reasonable price.

That sounds like a great plan, but really, there should be PLENTY of bridal shops in LA that are more reasonable...I doubt you''ll have a problem finding someone more accommodating.
