Hello all.

I've been hunting all over google images and the forums for any pictures of a X-1 14k band beside a rhodium plated band.

I've found a lot showing X-1 beside palladium wg and 9250 Palladium, and various silvers...

However I keep hearing "X-1 is so white, it doesn't even need plating!"

So I would like to see a picture of X-1 14k beside rhodium plated 14k preferably palladium since that is my back-up choice.

Thank you all,

Casey

I have had a very limited experience with X1 and that was some earring settings. It looked just like any other wg to me, but I can't say I held it up to anything, either! I think it is a great choice and you still have the option to plate it if you ever have any reason to do so. But I think it certainly would be worth a try!

Thanks for the fast reply.

I am currently working on a custom setting with Greenlake, and if I go with them, I am certainly going with the X-1. If it's not quite white enough alone, I'll just have it plated. Not a huge deal.

However it seems that in the press releases and the magazine articles and my designer (who is super nice to work with!) all keep stating it's "so white it doesn't need plating,"

However I haven't seen a single picture of it against a plated piece in the same light. I can google up X-1 and then google up a rhodium plated ring, but they are different lighting, different locations, not really a comparision.

Oh yeah, I love that article!

I think that article was how I originally found this site, and I've read it many times since, including today. It certainly shows the Palladium gold vs rhodium.

I also found this helpful page showing the X1 vs Palladium and against a number of silvers:

I didn't see a forum link on the site so I think it's okay to post. The X-1 is a lot whiter right up against the Palladium WG and the 925 Palladium.

Honestly I think they'd both be plenty white when not stacked against their competition so. I just really wish there was a rhodium band on the end there, to compare everything else to.

That is a great picture, too! All of this is really interesting, but it makes life complicated when rings are usually made with a certain alloy and you want to ask them to change it! :twirl:

Good luck with your ring and come back and post pics when it is done!

I tried to get BGD to work with this alloy and was told I would have to use a Stuller stock mount. I was pretty disappointed.

Hi there,

I just wanted to chime in that I've been looking at Greenlake to make my setting too because I love their 18k warm wg. Just thought it was cool that you were using them too.

Susan

P.s. if this is the one in Seattle. :)

Same one as in seattle, and their X-1 is their go-to white gold currently. (for white-white, they have others for different color tastes)

However my designer did mention that they make their X-1 gold "in house."

The conversation went like this "Well, if you're looking for white gold, we have one called X-1 that is really white, it doesn't even need rhodium plating."

"Oh yeah, Stullers X-1 gold?"

"We make ours in house so it's not from Stuller, but yeah, that white gold."

So I suppose that is why they can make custom settings with it and don't have to use stock Stuller settings.
