I''m trying to match a pair of OEC''s for studs. It has been tough...so I''m considering being flexible on the color so that I can actually make this project happen. How far apart would you accept?

For OECs? I probably wouldn''t be comfortable with more than one color grade. If they were ideal RBs I *might* accept two, but even then I''d probably feel better with just one. I know they''re separated by an entire face, but still...

The closest I''ve found is about 2-3 color grades.

I would accept just 1 gladly! I''ve scoured Old World Diamonds, Ebay, JEBG, etc. I found a pair with matching color, but one would be about .2/.3 mm''s smaller...I know that will be less apparent once set, but they''re both loopsy in different ways. Its hard to explain, but the overall shapes aren''t so similar.

How big are the stones?

Under say 5mm I'd be okay with easily 2 grades..

Depending on how you set them you can mitigate the lopsyness. I've found 8prongs are really good at 'enhancing' the visual of a perfectly round circumference, I imagine bezels would, too, whereas 3prongs seem to enhance the out-of-roundedness!

Thanks Yssie! I''m not usually picky, and I think 8 inches between each stud would make it less obvious. But, I wonder if it would irk me internally, especially when I took the earrings off. Ya know, kind of a mind clean issue? I think I may just go ahead and order the second 0EC so that I can put them side by side.

Does mounting ever help "equalize" colors? Am I way off base?

I would go D to I probably... I think exactly matching diamonds for studs are overrated ;)

I think that on your head you can have differences in size, differences in color, even to some extent differences in shape... I think that when they''re in your hand if the differences that WON''T show on your head make you uneasy you need to close that gap until you feel comfortable.

Depending on size. Smaller stones I think 2-3 color difference would be fine. Larger stones probably only 1-2. Shape would also make a difference.

Thanks Cehra and Marcy! Ahh, Cehra, I like your spirit!

They''re about a half carat. I''m thinking of doing an 8 prong to marginalize the shape differences and give him a little oomph.

Yssie, I hope you don''t mind that I''m using you as inspiration!

Ooh I have about the same size, too

Mounting is also definitely something of an equalizer. Your final pair will be fabulous!

And if you don't like the match you can always make a pendant, or a bracelet, or a... with the odd one

I know, I love your studs! 1 carat studs were something of a fantasy until my mom decided she would give me a graduation present separately from my dad.
