I know I started a thread yesterday about 3 prong martinis or bezels for my 1ctw diamond studs. I had another thought, and wanted your opinions, and I think it might have gotten buried in my other thread.

What about the WF 8 prong setting? I love that look! Are my diamonds too small for that though? The only pics I could find that come close to the size diamonds I have were magnified so I don''t think it was a great representation of what they look like in "real life." They do seem to sit lower on the ear than the 3 and 4 prong settings do, which I like.

Opinions on the 8 prong settings for .50ct stones?

I love the 8 prong setting, but personally, I wouldn''t get them for stones under say, .75 each. I think the amount of metal might overwhelm a smaller stone. But, that''s jmo!

I love the 8 prongs too, but I would probably get them for bigger stones.

I''d vote bezels, as they will make your 0.5 ct stones look even bigger!!

I agree that 1/2 carat is a bit on the small side for 8 prongs.

I know you guys are right.

I just LOVE the look. Too bad I can't upgrade to .75's right now! Back to the drawing board! I do really like the look of the martini, so I may end up with those. I'd looooove to have Leon ones, but I think he's wee bit out of my price range!

I'll have to go look around and see what I can find in person to help me decide what look I want. That means have to go into jewelry stores....and look at jewelry. Boo!!

In this case, I''d stick with stock martini settings until you can upgrade the studs; when you do, go for the dream setting 8-prongs.

Yes. Yes, I AM an enabler. LOL

Thanks! I honestly don''t think I''ll upgrade. If I ever do, it will be many years down the road, so I will have gotten enough use out of $300 settings that I wouldn''t mind changing them (besides, I could always use them for colored stones!). I like the size I have now. What do you think about the 8 prongs with .50 stones? I''m emailing with Lesley, but I haven''t heard her opinion on that yet.

I am curious about the cost of taking my diamonds out their current setting and resetting them.

I think .50 is the minimum I would go for 8 prong studs, but personally I think martinis will look much better. Unless of course you had leon make 8 prong settings...he could probably make them delicate enough for a .50 carat stone. I would save your money and just go with the martinis though. I don''t think you will be dissappointed!

I think 8 prongs would be a little busy for .5s. I still vote for bezels.
