Did a search but couldn't find a definitive answer. Sorry for the stupid question, but are struts and stems basically the same thing, ie the part that connects the halo with band or donut?
Or are they something else?
A halo can be an integral part of the shank's upper shoulders as well as being supported by some sort of wires or struts coming from the base of the ring at the finger. Some of these struts may be straight or have curvature, or a fancy design and more complexity than others. All of this is part of what I'd term the undergallery of the ring. I suppose calling certain supports struts or stems would not be a bad description although I have never heard that terminology in use in the trade. When a ring is properly made, with sufficient strength and thickness to be durable, there ought to be little difference of importance about what one calls the components so long as they look pleasing to the eye and are suitable for the task.
Thanks so much for your informative reply. I had read other posts here that mentioned struts and stems (mostly in relation to Victor Canera halo rings) but couldn't find an explanation of the terminology. Thanks again!
