Strongly considering a Brian Gavin Blue but nervous

I've been looking at diamonds and settings for a few months now.

The setting will either be the Eternal Grace from Brian Gavin or the Caroline from Vatche.

I'd like .80-.85 for the stone. Trying to keep it at or above 6mm.

Budget is $6000. Setting is 1850 from Brian gavin (with a small customization) and about 2000 for the Caroline.

On Brian Gavin's site I can get a .82 H VS2 with no fluorescence for 6273 total

But I've been looking at the Blue's. I could get a .86 I VS2 with Strong Blue for 5699 total or a .817 for 5200 total. So I get a larger diamond and save 500-1000 depending on the one I went with. I'd probably go with the larger one.

I'm worried about the strong blue. I like it. I think the blue hue that it gives out is unique and beautiful. I think she would feel the same way. Any of them are larger than her friends so that isn't an issue. I guess I'm just trying to justify going with the blue even though it has a negative reputation. I'm sure with it being from Brian Gavin there wouldn't be any negative results on the stone.

Any thoughts?

Oh, if we go midnight bowling with blacklights is her diamond going to glow and stand out?

Yes a SB will glow under black lights - mine does and it is so cool!

I love my SB; the slight blue hue in sunlight is gorgeous to my eye. I was nervous about SB as well having never seen one before, but once I saw it in person (and I ordered from an online place as well) I fell in love. I think you would be very happy with one; all of BG's blues have been screened already so you know whatever one you choose will be free of the rare but dreaded milkiness / oiliness some stronger blues can sometimes display.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm really close to ordering. I need to get her finger size, lol. That should be interesting.

But seriously, I think the blue is a fascinating feature and I keep looking and pictures here and videos and am starting not to worry about it so much.

I have a Brian Gavin Blue. It's so nicely cut and I like the price (A LOT). Mine is a 1.22 G SI1 Med Fluor. You really have nothing to worry about. The fluor makes the stone icy white when you're outside. I LOVE it. It's definitely not negative in any way shape or form in my opinion.

The .866 I had my eye on is being sold. Of course. I've emailed them to see if they have anything new coming. I won't hesitate next time

I would have gone for the .817 anyway, I think. A $500 savings for a difference in spread that wouldn't be noticeable? :sun:

The Blues tend to sell pretty fast. I've had several of them in my favorites, they keep disappearing. I'm not quite ready to turn the key.
