Strong fluorescence and not eye clean - does it matter?

Hi,

I''m wondering whether anyone can help me in deciding whether or not to take the plunge and order a diamond. I had my heart set on this stone - http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1260177.asp - GIA, triple excellent, H, SI1 1.16 ct RBC, strong blue fluorescence. It scores 1.4 on the HCA and idealscope image is below.

I contacted James Allen, and this what the customer services representative advised -

"I have contacted our gemmologist and got her opinion of the diamond.

In terms of florescence, the diamond does show a strong blue hue, however it is only apparent under ultraviolet light. The fluorescence does not negatively affect the diamond, it will only help boost the color up one grade.

The diamond is not what she would consider eye-clean but the inclusion is well hidden. The feather is white and outside of the table so it blends into the facets.

Overall, it is a very beautiful diamond."

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether either the fluorescence or the visible inclusion under the facets is likely to be an issue? It is a very good deal and I am on a budget, so not looking for perfection, but obviously want the most beautiful stone possible within my price range.

Any comments would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance for your help.

Here is the IS it looks good.

The strong blue don''t bug me, I like it.

The eyeclean issue is one only you can decide.
Personally I would not buy it but others would not be bugged by it and would.

my strong blue flour. diamond. It sparkles like mad in all indoor lighting

and looks like any other diamond outside - hmm...would be a cool piece for nightclubbing too

. Besides, it usually helps keep the cost down a bit.

Ditto, the inclusion wouldn''t bother me however if it is discreet but only you know what camp you fall into whether it would bug you or not!

Thanks, all, for taking the time to respond. All input is greatly appreciated.

I am thinking that perhaps the inclusion would not show with the brilliance of the diamond, unless I were really looking for it?
Exoticisabella, does your fluorescent diamond look different to other diamonds in non-nightclub lights?

I, too, just bought a strong blue fluorescence cushion diamond. You can usually see the blue color under concentrated UV light (why a club would be great). Otherwise, it looks like any other diamond. For the most part, I don''t believe there is anything about the fluorescence that makes it technically better or worse; it''s just a matter of preference. Like others have stated, I actually think it''s really cool. When I had mine appraised he showed it to me under a blacklight and it was very blue and very cool.

Thanks, Ambition. Other than a club, is there anywhere else you are likely to get concentrated UV light? Might be an odd question, but I just don''t know!

outdoors in sunlight

Is UV highly concentrated in sunlight? I''m not sure that I''d want my ring glowing blue whenever I went into the sun! Have others experienced this?

yes but not as much as at clubs, the blue tint is actually pretty neat looking, yes have seen it.

It looks to me like you could prong the inclusion? I see it is no longer available...did you buy it?

maybe it''s just me, but It seems to sparkle with more blue light then my 3/4 carat, no flour. diamond. I like it though and have gotten many fine compliments on the diamond

. I''ve heard of overblues before but have never actually seen one, and I cant imagine a diamond having more blue flour. then mine! Maybe for fun you could go to a jewelers and put a strong blue side by side with a no flour. diamond and see what you think?
