Buy a small blacklight torch? :P

Circe - live with your pear for a few days and then think about sending it back. If you can do it easily then it''s not the one for you. If you would be chasing the post van down the road or laying in front of it getting it to stop, that''s another answer!!!

Check out the bowtie in all lights to make sure that you''re going to be happy with it because it is very obvious in one of the shots (less so in others).

With the SB fluor, it''s probably not going to be as obvious because it''s an E colour stone. I see my fluor best in two lighting conditions (1) direct sunlight and (2) with strong sunlight outside but standing inside in a nice bright room (with no lights on) but mine never looks hazy. It just takes on a violet/blue tint but the clarity isn''t affected in any way.

By the way, I love the pendant. I think that''s very pretty and I think I''d prefer that to a bezel.

You''re a genius! Why didn''t I think to take blacklight shots? Voila, for your viewing pleasure ....

A little closer for maximum contrast: my e-ring has negligible fluorescence. With the light on, it''s completely invisible.

And, in all its glory, alone. What do you say, ladies and gents - does that look like strong blue?

P.S. - FB, I checked the UV index as I saw you did on your threads, and I''m still hopeful - turns out my neck of the woods was in 0-1 range for UV today. Soooooooo ... maybe it will glow after all?

Now that is a cool shot!!!

AWESOME! I

flurorescence!

Uh, Circe, while I love that shot as your av, the proportions are slightly off, making that lovely stone look a little elongated in the avatar. I took the liberty of resizing and squaring up the photo if you would like to use this:

Nice. :)

You''re an angel! Thank you - I saw it, too, but I couldn''t figure out how to fix it. Thanks!

btw: THAT settles it. I am getting a blue one day !!!

Oh my gosh - that''s AWESOME!!! The stone we most likely will be getting has a Very Strong Blue fluorescence and at first I was a little worried about it, but now that I''ve seen those blacklight pictures of your pear I''m really excited!! I have yet to see the stone directly under strong sunlight, but I can''t wait to see if it will take on a blueish or even purple tint!

I lurve it!

That stone looks like it has its own internal light! I like the shape and the bow-tie doesnt look to bad either.
All and all I say its a pretty nice little stone you got there!

From the pictures you provided, your pear seems to be bright and sparkly. Due to the fact that pears have a constantly changing crown and pavilion angle combination as you move around the stone, they can't outperform a round diamond for overall light return, but the way that pears sparkle and their overall look is a refreshing change to a round diamond.

But for argument's sake, let's assume that you hate the bow tie (although nearly all pears will have at least a minor bow tie effect; you either have to live with it, or go for a different shape of diamond).
But if you dislike the bowtie, the question then becomes: what if you like the fluorescence and you can't find another SB or VSB pear, of decent cut proportions and no bowtie, that is within your colour/size/clarity/cut/cost parameters?

In other words, is the SB fluor a worthwhile trade-off? Or should you look for a different diamond shape (round/princess etc) with SB flour?

Oh my Circe... It is jaw droppingly STUNNING!!!

LD, I like the way you think! I''m already starting to get attached, I think.

It''s just so sparkly in a way that''s very different from a round, and so white, period ....

As for the setting, it''s kind of elegant, right? I''ll post a shot of it on its lonesome, later: I can''t figure out if it''s meant to be a halo, or just a prong-setting with a frame, or, for that matter, if it would fit my stone safely! Any opinions, guys?

Hm ... what an interesting way of looking at it. So, just thinking out loud ....

This is hands-down the biggest pear I''ve seen, with the best specs and the best proportions: I only found 6 of them with strong fluor in total, and getting an F SI2 with a deeper cut for the same money seems a little silly, somehow. Even if it had stronger fluor ... I don''t know if I''d want to trade that much additional size: I guess it would depend on the stone. But, frustratingly, none of the vendors seemed to know, and a few of them even warned me away from the strong fluor (with the best of intentions, and before they knew I was looking for it specifically). So ... the option there would be waiting indefinitely, and playing roulette again later, probably in a smaller size.

I didn''t look at other shapes at all - I think I checked marquise, but not as devotedly: in my head, a marquise pendant would need to go e-w, and I''m not sure how that would look. I''d like a princess someday, but in a larger size (see also, ha! from the corner of my wallet). Ditto cushion ... and I''m happy with my round already.

So, by the process of logical elimination, the pear is looking better and better.

The only remaining options are either mystery!future-pear, hopefully with stronger fluor, or a smaller pear and a leftover budget ....

Beautiful stone! I am going to have to get myself a strong blue fluorescent colorless stone someday!

Yummy yummy pear!!

I love your pear! It looks so sparkly and bright. Enjoy it.
