I was wondering how much fluoresence affects an asscher cut stone? Would it look better or worse in a D color? Can you tell from just a picture? Can this affect the price at all? Thanks so much!

Sometimes fluorescent colourless diamonds may be slightly discounted, as to any visible effects, how much fluorescence is there on the report - faint/ negligible, medium, strong or very strong blue?

The title said "strong", so I'm guessing that's what it is.

mz, there is no way we can tell from the picture. Each stone has to be evaluated, and inspected by a real person. Have your vendor give it a thorough look, in sun especially, to see if it exibits any oilyness/milkiness. And Lorelei is correct, strong to very strong will often carry a discount. Couldn't say how much.

Have the vendor fully inspect it for you and make sure you have some time to return it if it doesn''t meet your expectations, but personally, I think it would be BEAUTIFUL!

I''m not sure if fluoro would affect an asscher more or less than any other cut--I only have faint fluoro in my asscher and only once thought I *may* have seen some hint of it (then againit was outside in bright sunlight--it could have just been a reflection of the sky or something for all I know). Anyway, I know many experts will say that strong fluro in the colorless range (D,E,F) is bad, but I love it. The only problem I would have with it is that it would be impossible to match sidesstones or stones in a wedding band.

I can relate.

The only way to evaluate the effects is in person.
I love strong flour. but in a D with the large price increase it brings and the new GIA diamond grading lighting it raises the potential of it being over graded.
A gemological opinion is needed as to the UV blocked color grade and if there are any ill effects.

Whats the table size, crown height and depth of the diamond?

At the best, strong BLUE color UV fluorescence will be a value negative with a D color diamond. If the fluorescence makes the stone cloudy looking, the negative effect on value will be far more than if you can''t see it unless you are using a close-up UV light source.

Yellow Fluorescence will definitley impact the value. You simply cannot make a D color look better in terms of colorlessness.

Thanks everyone for your input. A few more questions:

1)Would a discount already be factored into the price or is that a negotiation thing?

2)If a "gemological" opinion is needed, then how helpful would the vendor be in that situation (Excel Diamonds)?

3)Would it even be worth considering if you are already paying a premium for the D color?

The only info I have right now is and the following pic:
D
VS1
Table 64%
Depth 66.4%
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Very good

Thanks again!!!!

I would like to know approx size too please - I think the dark in the ideal-scope beside the leakage could make a large dark zone in a large stone - but at around 1ct might not be an issue.

You really need an appraiser or good dealer or both.

Dave I like blue white D''s

The strong blue flour is probably already in the price. I personally wouldn''t pay a premium for D color, but then again D stones with blue flour are yummy!

Gh....sorry...forgot the size! It''s 2 carats (6.94 x 6.9 x 4.58). So I wonder if the leakage will be an issue?

Does anyone have any input on Excel diamonds overall as a vendor (in Asschers)?

kcoursolle...I wasn''t looking for a D...I don''t want to pay the premium either! But I was drawn in by the look of the stone (which isn''t the easiest to find).

I would use an independant appraiser

I agree, and it will help for you to see it in person as well.

I think the leakage should be fine the leakage is in narrow bands that create the patterns.
The points of the windmills are right on the border between leakage and return.
Overall this stone needs an in person evaluation by an expert.
I think its worth sending to an appraiser.
