Okay after everyone said EGL certificate, especially from Israel, should not be trusted, I went ahead and found a stone with HRD certificate. I am from Europe so that is where I will buy the stone from. Can you tell me what you think about the properties of this stone and how much I should fairly pay for it (ball park)? Thanks in advance!!!

Shape: Round- Brilliant
Carat(weight): 1.11 ct
Colour Grade: rare white (G)
Clarity Grade: VS2
Measurements: 6.78 - 6.83 mm x 4.02 mm
Girdle: medium 3.0 % faceted
Culet: pointed
Total Depth: 59.1 %
Table Width: 61 %
Proportions: very good
Polish: good
Symmetry: very good
Fluorescence: nil
Crown Height (β): 12.5 % (32.4 deg)
Pavilion Depth (α): 44.0 % (41.5 deg)
Length Halves Crown: 50 %
Length Halves Pavilion: 80
Sum α & β: 73.9 deg

Hi Serc,

The HCA gives it a score of 4.1, which does not bode very well.

This is in line with the HRD-grade, I would definitely advise taking EX as a starting point for the proportions-grade in HRD.

Live long,

Another stone to compare:

Shape: Brilliant
Fluorescence: nil
Carat(weight): 1.09 ct
Measurements: 6.59 - 6.61 mm x 4.03 mm
Colour Grade: rare white (G)
Girdle: medium 4.5 % faceted
Clarity Grade: vvs2
Culet: pointed
Table Width: 59 %
Proportions: very good
Crown Height: 13.5 %
Finish Grade: good
Pavilion Depth: 43.0 %

HCA tool says this is an excellent stone and the previous one "good". What do you all think? Thanks

I think that this is an older version of a HRD-report. What is the date on the report?

Hi Paul. The second stone is dated July 2005 from brillance.com.

I really appreciate your input. How much do you think that 1st stone would sell for in the market? Any ideas? Thanks,

Anyone else that can comment on the proportions of these diamonds? Thanks,

Why Serc?
its a no brainer!

Garry. Not sure what you mean. Can you please clarify? Thanks,

Paul indicated neither is a good choice.
Why bother your self or others?

Well excuse me. I did not mean to bother anyone. For your information, Paul did not comment on the second stone, but oh well, I guess I am in the wrong place to ask newbie questions.

Markets are not all the same. You mention that you’re wishing to buy in Europe but the vendor you’ve chosen is a US Internet dealer. That’s a pretty easy one to shop. HRD is not particularly well represented there (US Internet) but if you’re willing to call HRD comparable to GIA, it’s easy enough to compare prices with thousands of other stones available. The tricky part is in this comparison since the labs don’t use the same grading rules. This is part of what the dealer is for and is, presumably, one of the reasons you chose that particular dealer. HRD is well represented in the B&M stores in Europe and it shouldn’t be that hard to go see what things cost in THAT market but, as I’m sure you know, it’s not the same situation and the asking prices are not the same. If you want to buy from one of the US guys, they can almost all get HRD stones if you want even if they don’t choose to list them in their websites. Pick someone you count as reliable and then call them up and tell them what you want. They should be able to come up with an offer and that gives you a basis for comparing prices between multiple sources. By the way, don’t forget to consider taxes in your comparison shopping. The locals probably already have it built into the price and bringing it in from overseas will involve a tax bill on your own.
