Stone Quality for Three Stone Rings

I am looking to purchase a three stone emerald cut ring in the near future and am wondering what clarity and color of stones would be best. I was originally going to have my ER emerald cut diamond re-mounted into a three or five stone ring however, my emerald cut stone is an E color and VS1 in clarity and is a beautiful stone set alone. I have decided to have it remounted into a necklace and purchase a whole new ring.

What color and clarity stones do people prefer for a three stone ring with emerald cut diamonds? Since the EC stone is unique, I don''t want to go too low on the clarity scale. Any opionions on this matter are greatly appreciated.

Hi NY,

I would suggest getting out there and looking at some, to see what your tolerance level for color is. Keep in mind, well cut stones will face up whiter, where as not so well cut will show more color.

If I were doing this ring, and money were no object, I'd go with G's. They won't show color, no reason to go higher. As for clarity, as long as it looked eyeclean, I wouldn't care. In a step cut, I'd think that would almost always be VS2, and up. There are those rare SI1's though...
