This ring was bought on Ebay last year. I never received it. Paypal don''t want to refund me because I had written "ring" instead of "ebay purchase" when I paid.

Look at this beauty... think I''m gonna cry for the rest of my life...

I don''t understand what you mean about writing ring instead of eBay purchase. Did you complete the transaction off eBay?

No! when I pay by Paypal, I must check "Ebay listing" (not ebay purchase sorry) or write a name for the item. I did not make the good thing.

This is what Paypal said to me after I open a dispute. At this time, Paypal was not translate in french for Canadian and I was confused.

I have lost all my money and the beautiful ring.

When I buy something on eBay I go directly to paypal from the invoice. I don''t understand how you did it separately. I''m sorry that beautiful ring is missing though. You must be so disappointed.

Ho I see! It''s because I''ve made 2 payments in 2 different weeks. The first one was made directly from the invoice but the other one (final payment) by the seller Paypal email.

Ah! I understand now! Surely the fact that you paid some of the money from the eBay invoice should prove to paypal that you bought the ring. How annoying for you!

Thank you nice Maisie! I''m stupid but I hope to find the ring someday...

Thank you Whitby!

You aren't stupid. I hope the ring eventually shows up. Has the seller provided proof of shipping? Was the package insured?

The seller told me by email the package was stolen at post office by employee.

When wanted asked for a refund, the seller closed his account on ebay. I know many other buyers was scam too in the same week.

It''s strange because this seller had 100% positive feedback the day I finished my payment.

The ebay seller is "devotionshop".

Sorry for your loss...

Paypal has never really been refund friendly (there is a long history). Their current practices are somewhat better than what used to be - only because they were forced to do something.

This is why my paypal is linked to a credit card (and not a bank account). If I have a problem with a purchase I cancel it through the credit card (and paypal has no choice in the matter).

Paypal implemented the concept of working directly through people''s bank account specifically to avoid the consumer protection laws in the US at the time (does anyone really think that the only way that they can "verify" that you exist is to not only have your bank information - but permission to directly transfer $ to and from your bank).

Another option you should consider for large $ purchases - is using an escrow payment service. There are several out there.

In this case though, I suspect you were deliberately ripped off. The two payments is a real clue that this was intentional as it transfers the transaction to an area where paypal does not automatically cover anything (it''s been a couple of years since I had to deal with this type of transaction - but read the paypal section on purchases where you put a deposit down and then pay the balance "latter"). The closed account is another clue.

Again, sorry for your loss.

I hate having my bank account linked to paypal. I still choose the option to pay with my card instead of funding directly from my account.

stci, I''m sorry you''re out your money and that beautiful ring!

maisie,

can you please tell me how to link the payal account to a credit card rather than my bank account please?

Thank you all! You are soooo nice!

I''m so sorry!!! The ring is beautiful.

I have no paypal experience--but if it was insured I''m wondering why you wouldn''t get your money back?????

maisie,

can you please tell me how to link the payal account to a credit card rather than my bank account please?

If you add a credit card to your paypal account you can choose to pay with that. When you complete checkout on eBay and log into paypal you can click to use an alternative funding source. You choose your credit card and complete payment. A message will pop up trying to persuade you to use the bank funding but you just confirm you prefer to use your card.

I see that string of nasty feedback he got was all about him not refunding.

I would say before you purchase, definitly check here http://toolhaus.org/ That dosen''t always work but it works about 85% of the time.

It wouldn''t have caught this guy''s behavior unfortunately.

The other thing is never EVER send the seller money, make him give you an invoice. Its the only way you can fight back if you need do. Paypal is doing much better these days. You may also need to call their customer service line too. It would be the best way to make your case and considering he had this rather string of not refunding anyone for a week, it may work in your favor.

Its a lot easier if you never give paypal your bank information. All they have for me is a credit card number. Now that limits me to a $10,000 lifetime maximum (last I looked). But I don''t use Paypal that much.

I think you also have an option to remove your bank information - and only leave a credit card. If not, you can always close your paypal account; and open a new one down the road a bit (say in 30 days). Just don''t give them the bank info. There is no need to get "verified."
