Stockpiling (non-C19 related)

Sooo not to burst your bubble but feet can get bigger :(
Mine did.

Here’s hoping both our feet remain the same size from here on in. Please. :)

That is my fear as I've worn nothing but flip flops/slippers since Covid hit.

HI:

J Crew is no longer in Canada--and I used to buy their "Perfect long sleeved tee's" by the half dozen. My staple under sweaters. Mine are on their last legs and I can no longer buy them. waaaaa Oh and I have multiples of my fav Mizuno runners and jockey cotton undies.

PS I've been known to buy cases of the same wine......:P2

cheers--Sharon

My sil hoards 4 drawers full of brand new bras with tags on

Guilty as well. And dozens and dozens of the same cute printed socks, most brand new with tags. I also own 5 pairs of the same jeans.

In my twenties I went up a half size. In my thirties I went up another half size. Despite my weight and clothing size remaining the same since HS my feet kept growing lol. When I broke my leg (tibia and fibula) I asked the surgeon two questions. One would I be able to walk without a limp. Two would I be able to wear my SW boots again LOL. To which he replied IDK. To both questions. Oy. But fortunately my foot remained the same size after I had surgery I healed from the traumatic breaks and I am happy to say I do not have a limp.

But I digress. Yes one's foot can grow at any age I believe. For a myriad of reasons.

::)

 @missy, my feet didn’t get bigger during pregnancy, despite carry a big baby, so I’m not worried they’re going to get any bigger now.

Haha, I think you are A OK @Austina :) and my post was more for others reading who might think it couldn't happen.

Did you know our ears and noses also keep on growing? :errrr:

I buy multiples of yoga pants because thats my "uniform" because I'm picky as hell. I bought 12 pair of C9 yoga pants in black because they somehow got "Phased out" for another type that I do not like at all. The ones that replaced them are aweful.

I just got rid of the ones I had when I lived in Massachusetts so the next 6 are in rotation now. that gives me 6 more pair and some time to find some that I might actually like.

I do stockpile groceries and the like but I always have. I keep a steady rotation, but I never buy what will not get eaten.

If my husband ever happens to read this thread and see my post -
Just remember that the reason you had toilet paper when stores were all sold out was because I ignored your grouching and took full advantage of the Target $5 back on multiples special and bought lots more than #ExactlyWhatWeNeedBecauseWeCanAlwaysComeBackAndWeDon'tHaveStorageUpstairsAndGoingToTheBasementIsAnnoying a few weeks prior... :???:

I don't really "back-stock" clothing, BUT I do backstock all household goods, I always have. Cleaning supplies, skincare (I'll buy multiples when it's on sale), all bathroom stuff, any long term foods, etc. At any given time I'll have enough of those things to last a year.

Yeah I'm fairly minimalist in most senses but I'll happily buy multiples of "consumable products" if they are on sale ie. toilet paper, cleaning products, toothpaste, shampoo etc as I know they will definitely get used and not expire!

During normal times I’m very much a minimalist. I think it’s because I’ve moved so many times in my life, often at the spur of the moment. Especially as a child. I actually get a bit anxious when I’m surrounded by too much stuff.

I like to watch the American show “Hoarders”, because a lot of the participants suffer from anxiety like me, yet they cope with it in the opposite way. I’m fascinated by this show and the mountains and mountains of stuff piled to the ceilings in some of the houses. My DH knows that when I watch it he needs to hide his stuff because I’m about to go on a cleaning spree.

My minimalism has actually cost us money. I’ll sometimes give items to Goodwill thinking we don’t need them anymore, only to rebuy them later.

This is me, exactly!

PS off topic but love your avatar pic!

This thread is giving me stress pains :-). I have three pairs of jeans - six pairs of trousers in total. Less than 15 pairs of shoes (that includes trainers, running shoes, flip flops and wellies). I have a rule of 'one in one out'. I find too much stuff makes it difficult to choose what to actually use (across all categories, not just clothes) and then I think of all the cash that's tied up and all the space that the stuff takes up! Oh mammy daddy, the palpations, I must go lie down now. (But I do buy extra tooth paste when it's going cheap, that just common sense ;-)2 )

When I find something I like, I would buy multiples of it in case it discontinues etc...

Like 8 pairs of black treggings and Crocs at a time! :lol-2:

And flannel shirts from Uniqlo in different colours of the same pattern.

Also Kipling bags in styles that I like in different colours (variations of black and grey, and the odd red/deep pink).

And shoes for more formal occasions - I bought 3 pairs of the same shoes that were on sale recently.

The perfume that I have been wearing for the past 25 years of so, namely Chanel No. 19, has its range drastically reduced by Chanel, and I bought as many of the last remaining 50ml EDP that I could find (x2), plus a larger 100ml bottle. I may need to get more 100ml bottles before Chanel decides to kill it off completely. :roll2:

Please tell me I am not the only one who does this, thanks in advance!

DK :lol-2:

I just got my first ever bottle of no.19 and so intrigued by its unique scent .....getting used to it...so very different altogether from my eternal favorite no. 5

I tried No. 5 to see what the fuss is about and did not like it.

Scent, as well as taste, are also very personal for certain.

Just today I had cause to be glad I had a backup of several items.

1. My husband knocked his French press to the floor and the glass carafe shattered. This his 3rd (or 4th?) French press to break since he began brewing his coffee this way. I've learned to always have one backup on hand. (I've looked at the stainless steel ones but he prefers glass). Now that the backup is in use, I have to buy another backup for the next time it breaks. I have one in my Amazon cart already.

2. The zipper on my Lily Bloom triple section satchel broke today. I love these bags! I first bought them when I had to take care of my mother who had dementia, and needed a purse with a section just for her wallet, etc. Mom is long gone but I still love the bags. They are made from recycled water bottles and are washable. They are very lightweight. They have many compartments, including a place for my phone and water bottle. And they come in many colorful fabrics, which are (of course) discontinued regularly. When I find one in a fabric I love, I buy 3. They are durable, but nothing lasts forever. So glad I had a backup! =)

I agree! You can never tell what you will like or dislike till you try! Fragrances are so personal.=)2 I’m curious to know since you’ve been using no.19 for 25 years, have you seen a difference in the way it smells with every new batch or have the formulations stayed consistent ?

We keep extra coffee machines on hand for this very reason. But I am generally the one who breaks things. Luckily in today's world we can get replacements almost immediately. I broke the coffee carafe and even though we had an extra I had to order another extra as soon as I broke the original and we got it delivered within 2 hours. You cannot beat that. This was last fall when the pandemic was going strong. Amazing how fast the replacement got delivered!

Also I stock up on cat food and treats even before the pandemic because we have a lot of cats we are feeding when you factor in our ferals. And once the pandemic hit stores started limiting cat food amounts which was anxiety producing for me as we have so many ferals and four house cats who have large appetites. Fortunately we managed to feed everyone without any issues. Thank goodness.

If possible I like to stock up on meds because without some of them I would die so that is also stressful. I paid out of pocket when I could and got my physician to write another RX so I could stock up on one specific med without which I would die a slow painful death. But once again I digress.

My nose is probably not sufficiently sensitive to detect the formulation change when they removed/changed certain ingredients due to health and safety concerns in the past 10 years or so.

DK :))

I keep a decent stock of everything, so I never run out, but don't intentionally stock pile because I prefer new, fresh things. If I really like something, I will buy it in a few colors and variations.

As an FYI, lotions, skincare, cosmetics, fragrances do "expire" so it's often better to buy it when you need it, unless it's being discontinued of course!

I do have a month of emergency food supply and an extensive emergency kit. All the recent natural disasters make me want to be prepared, no downside. I don't hoard or stockpile though, I just buy what I need.

When my favorite items are going on sale or being discontinued I do usually buy a few- like my favorite running shoes, shorts and sports bras. Or recently, Clinique discontinued the tinted moisturizer/light foundation I use so I bought 4 bottles half priced, I wanted to get more but I think they'd expire before I use them. I never get an unreasonable amount of things, but I like to have a backup to tide me over until I find a replacement for the things i know are essential for me that I am picky about. I also keep 1-2 backups of some non-perishable house hold items on hand as well as I'm in an area that tends to have severe weather. I do purge regularly as well.

In all these years I've only ever had a lotion go "off" once. They keep best in a cool location (we store extras in our cool basement.)
Fragrances also keep very well if stored where it's cool and dark. Light is the worst enemy of perfumes. I have decades-old perfumes that are just fine.

I hate shopping, especially for clothes.

I wait for a sale to buy 50 pairs of the same white socks and 20 black ones.
This way they last for years.
Eventually, when I see a hole, I'll throw away that individual sock.

Every fifth week we do 20 to 25 loads of laundry at the laundromat in their huge machines.
I find this saves a great deal of time.
When my sock drawer no longer last those 5 weeks I just toss the worn out oldies and buy 50 new pair.

It's more efficient, less hassle, and probably cheaper than the usual way of buying a pair or two now and then.
I do enjoy never searching for a matching sock.

I manage undies the same way.
When I find tennis shoes I like on sale I'll buy 5 or 6 pair of the same shoe.
I'm fine with wearing the same thing several days in a row.
My self esteem comes from other things.

Did I mention I hate shopping?

My husband totally does that- finds one thing he likes and buys in bulk! He will totally get 50 pairs of the same socks and then not buy any for years, I think he has 20 of the same shirt, 10 of the same pants… it’s basically a uniform
