When I find something I like, I would buy multiples of it in case it discontinues etc...

Like 8 pairs of black treggings and Crocs at a time! :lol-2:

And flannel shirts from Uniqlo in different colours of the same pattern.

Also Kipling bags in styles that I like in different colours (variations of black and grey, and the odd red/deep pink).

And shoes for more formal occasions - I bought 3 pairs of the same shoes that were on sale recently.

The perfume that I have been wearing for the past 25 years of so, namely Chanel No. 19, has its range drastically reduced by Chanel, and I bought as many of the last remaining 50ml EDP that I could find (x2), plus a larger 100ml bottle. I may need to get more 100ml bottles before Chanel decides to kill it off completely. :roll2:

Please tell me I am not the only one who does this, thanks in advance!

I think that is wise. I stock up on everything. If it is on sale. My mother's father owned the general store in Tahoe so she was used to having literally everything on hand. We grew up with a separate room full of 20+ bottles of oil, 20+bottles of vinegar, 20kg of flour, etc etc. So, while not a genetic trait (I was adopted), I definitely inherited that mentality. I will buy 10l of olive oil if it is on offer, and if there are stapes like underwear or socks on offer, I buy everything in my size. So for me it isn't fear of it being discontinued, just stinginess.

@737lizakg I believe I got that trait from my parents too, that's my excuse!

I definitely stock up on clothes items I like. I have multiple pairs and colours of the trousers/leggings I most like from when they were in the sale - Winser miracle trousers are the best thick legging/trousers ever! I also have a few pairs of my favourite black boots. What can I say? I like what I like, and I really like being comfortable so I stock up on clothes that fit the bill whenever they’re on sale! I often buy summer clothes in winter and vice versa as they’re cheaper in sales and I can buy better quality for the same price.

The PS-er in me wants to know... do you do that for gems too?? :lol-2:

I have a long list of CSs waiting to be set for certain!

I really should not buy anymore CSs, however, what can I do when I have a bling obsession?

DK :lol-2:

My DH does this, it drives me batty. He hates shopping so every 5 years or so goes into the Rohan shop buys multiple items on sale and then they lie in the drawer, still in their packaging, until he needs them. I must however investigate the miracle legging/trousers of which @lissyflo speaks.

@Tartansparkles I recently bought 4 pairs of shorts for casual wear - they should last me for a while!

I love them! Wide elastic waistband that sits high on the waist, so there’s no muffin top and it’s seems to suck in your waist but comfortably. Thick enough to wear in winter and they don’t sag at the knee. And the material is soft - I hate scratchy fabric against my skin. But they’re expensive-ish for what they are when not on sale!

Yes I have a problem. I buy multiples of anything I like that I can afford that is. I cannot buy multiple Bubbalahs and such but if I can afford it I buy it if I like it I get multiples.

Cases in point.

Exercise equipment. I have duplicated almost everything I own exercise wise. Treadmills (4), Ellipticals (I have 3), weights, and hopefully my weight machine once we go back to Brooklyn.

Clothing and shoes. Too many to mention but I have way too many boots and dresses and sweaters and pants and leggings etc. And coats and hats and scarves and gloves etc etc etc. I use the excuse of having 2 homes but I also like the comfort of knowing I have multiples of what I like so I won't run out. Unless I gain too much weight (in process of gaining and I have gained 10 lbs already since Spring).

Food. This is a big issue. My freezer is stocked with ice cream. Before the pandemic. I love ice cream. And popcorn. I have lots of popcorn. Pretty much everything I enjoy I have lots of if I can. Produce spoils so I buy that fresh. If it didn't spoil I'd have lots of that too.

Even bicycles. When we enjoyed cycling on our upright tandem we got a second one for backup. Now we have 3 tandems but only one recumbent and I am thinking of eventually purchasing another recumbent tandem. Just in case. But waiting on that right now.

And we just bought a back up generator for the house. That was all me. Pretty expensive but because we lose power here too often I need a second generator to feel safe. Got it delivered last month and waiting for our electrician to hook up the new one. It is a better model and he can keep tabs on it from his home. The older one we are keeping and it will be our backup. The older one we bought in 2011 so it is considerably old in my defense and the newer model will be hopefully more reliable and better.

We are not alone.
FYI this was discussed a number of years ago here.

Shoes, I have lots and lots of shoes because I know my feet won’t get any bigger, and as I have small feet I can often get my size in the sale. Last time I counted, I think I had about 80 pairs :-o:oops:

I hoard cute boy clothes!

For some reason past the age of 7 they decree that boys cannot have fun/cute clothes! I have found a few brands that make clothes with adorable prints and have hoarded them in various sizes up to size 10 for my kidlet who loves fun prints.

He also loves this one brand of shorts so I have them in every print, every size in case the business ever goes bankrupt.

Only running shoes. Once you find the right fit, you don't want to give that up.

My sil hoards 4 drawers full of brand new bras with tags on

I’m guilty as charged there too! I have a drawer full of the same bra in different colours. This thread is making me realise that I’m either very fixed in my ways or I’m a very lazy shopper!

Um, that is not hoarding, that is just common sense... right? Right?!

the only thing I stockpile is food/paper products...my kids and hubby joke about when we need something in the kitchen they go to mom's "store" to get it, lol...seriously it goes on sale and its a really good buy I will buy multiples..I currently have 12 tubes of toothpaste...I paid 50 cents or less for each one and sometimes they pay me a penny to buy it..I am a heck of a grocery shopper and I can coupon shop with the best of them, the only thing you really have to watch is food items it doesnt pay to buy it if you know it will go bad before you will use it, just as a FYI I also donate quite a bit to our local food bank, couponing and saving money is a game for me that I enjoy.

I don't really "back-stock" clothing, BUT I do backstock all household goods, I always have. Cleaning supplies, skincare (I'll buy multiples when it's on sale), all bathroom stuff, any long term foods, etc. At any given time I'll have enough of those things to last a year.

@Asscherhalo_lover, ahh yes, cosmetics! I do stockpile moisturizer. I use a French brand that no longer has a US presence, so I stockpile whenever I'm in Paris. Luckily last year I bought about 2 years worth. Hopefully that will carry me through Covid times, until Americans are allowed to travel to Europe again. ;(

During normal times I’m very much a minimalist. I think it’s because I’ve moved so many times in my life, often at the spur of the moment. Especially as a child. I actually get a bit anxious when I’m surrounded by too much stuff.

I like to watch the American show “Hoarders”, because a lot of the participants suffer from anxiety like me, yet they cope with it in the opposite way. I’m fascinated by this show and the mountains and mountains of stuff piled to the ceilings in some of the houses. My DH knows that when I watch it he needs to hide his stuff because I’m about to go on a cleaning spree.

My minimalism has actually cost us money. I’ll sometimes give items to Goodwill thinking we don’t need them anymore, only to rebuy them later.

I stock up on a number of consumables, both for the household and for my personal use, and also clothing items and shoes that fit well. It saves me time, effort and money and makes sense to me-- especially in winter, when one can't always get out to shop. The quantities are not crazy, we have storage space in the basement, and we do use them up.

The one exception is back-up bottles of my favorite discontinued or reformulated perfumes. At the rate I seem to be using them up, at least some of my stash will likely outlive me, but I don't care. I'm happy knowing I'll always have my favorite perfumes to wear. :))

I have been known to buy more than one item at a time.Matalan jeans & tshirts for example.I used to buy Chanel 19 (gorgeous scent) but I got so used to it that I couldn't smell it on me any more.So now I rotate my perfumes to keep my nose on it's toes:mrgreen2:

Completely guilty here and I blame genetics ;)

When I have something I love - I will go and buy other colors. I recently posted how I bought 6 of the same sports dress in different colors/patterns for summer work-at-home. I also recently stocked up on a certain style Croc's Kadee II flip flops on-sale because they have become my wfh go-to shoe for comfort and ease of putting on.

I used to stockpile moisturizers/creams on-sale but I would eventually throw out because they go bad. I used to stock up on mineral eyeshadows because I've found that I only know how to put on a certain combination. But that didn't help -- my stockpile just ran out on one go-to and it's no longer available ;(

I prefer to describe myself as someone who has very strong personal preferences who knows her likes and dislikes!
DK :lol-2:

The thing I really hate is when I buy something I like only to find that I have something very similar (at times the exact same) in my closet

When I was growing up, I had a pair of shoes I absolutely loved. So my mom bought me 3 pairs in progressively bigger sizes so I could have the same ones as I grew, and I thought it was just the best idea.

I do stockpile, or at least buy duplicates, of a few things that I really love, especially skincare and shoes. I have 4 extra make up removers, moisturizers, and sunscreens sitting in a cabinet right now and a fresh pair of my favourite boots is waiting for its time to shine. I agree about the running shoes too.

I'm not a huge clothes shopper, but I have several pairs of the same jeans because they're just the perfect jeans, and I am still kicking myself for not buying 2 of my favourite winter coat - it will be a sad day when it dies.

I also have duplicates of a few things for my horses. If you find the perfect fit and colour in blanket, it's good to have a back-up because horses love to destroy things.

Sooo not to burst your bubble but feet can get bigger :(
Mine did.

Here’s hoping both our feet remain the same size from here on in. Please. :)
