I was on a business trip to another country where I could bring back duty free items, and had planned to buy a 100ml bottle of Chanel No. 19, the only scent that I have been wearing for the past 25+ years.
To my disappointment, they don't stock it at the Chanel counter, even though they had a tester available.
The range has been cut back by Chanel to only 3 formats in the past 10 years or so. In the past it had body lotion, soap, EDT, EDP, and perfume in different sizes etc...
Not an issue I thought, until I discovered they are like gold dust!
I guess it is not a profitable line for them compared with their other fragrances, and am worried they may stop making it completely!
I already have 2 x 50ml EDP purchased when I discovered this size has been discontinued a couple of years ago, 1 in use and 1 as a spare.
I am using a 100ml bottle of EDP at the moment at a rate of about 30ml per year.
I found a site in France that has 100ml EDP in stock, and placed 2 separate orders for 4 each.
They should last me for a while! :lol-2:
I can't talk about this elsewhere, as it sounds kind of crazy and extravagant, however I am confident that some PSers will understand.

Definitely not crazy!!!! Sensible!!!!! You buy what you can in case the product vanishes! Especially in these times!

You do not want to know how many bottles of propalin I had during 2020.

There was a running joke that if the elderly doggo upped and died, we'd be copping a huge loss on unused propalin.

I also had many many many lobsters in the freezer!

I used a certain body butter for the last 15 years that was recently discontinued. Now it’s selling for 4x on eBay and other online outlets. They completely changed the formula and I had only 3 containers left in my stash. I had to switch to a different company, which HAPPILY suits me even better, both scent and consistency wise, so it’s ok. But a signature perfume? Irreplaceable.

I had done similar thing in the past with nail vanish, in that I like a particular shade, and when it was discontinued by Max Factor, I bought as many on the net as I could find. Luckily they were cheap compared with the perfume!!! :lol-2: I still have loads left as I stopped being bothered about wearing nail vanish.

Estee Lauder discontinued my favorite lipstick (color). I found 2 tubes at an outlet mall in Cali. But that's it.

How long does the perfume/fragrance stay "fresh"? I suppose as long as the original sealed bottle stays sealed, then it should be fine as it's not exposed to air/oxidation?
 
I’ve got a bottle of L’air du temps EDP that I bought in the Bahamas in 1999 and it’s still fine.

It depends. Some perfumes will not last decades no matter how careful one is with storage.
Average shelf life of an unopened perfume is 3-5 years maybe longer if high quality but generally it will not last for many decades. There are, of course, exceptions.

I just have to chance it with my stockpile - for all I know, they might outlive me!

When I was planning to get a campervan/RV back in 2020, I expected it would last for the next 10 years, in that I might be too old and/or incapable to go out and about in her after 10 years of use!

Back in the late 80s I began using Halston Antiperspirant-deodorant. It was discontinued and I was able to find a hoarde of it on an online perfume website, which I purchased (it may have been around 30 3 oz. bottles) around 2010. When it arrived, I noticed it was past the expiration date on the bottom. I opened one and sniffed it and told self that I was keeping it. I'm estimating that I use about two per year. Thankfully, I don't sweat much under my arms so one swipe per side works. I also LOVED the Halston Bean solid perfume from back in the day. Perfumes are a primary migraine trigger for me, but a finger swipe's worth on my wrists had me smelling pretty.

I'm also one who's body chemistry changes the scent of perfumes. I've basically given up on perfumes.

This can happen with me, too! DH is highly sensitive to fragrance (gives him headaches), so I don't wear it anymore. However, when I did, I had to be sure to try on a fragrance and wear it until it softened down to the base scent. More than a few times, what smelled nice initially, dried down to a bug-dope-like smell! Just wacky!
 
My friend used Chanel No 5 and it smelled lovely on her, on me, it smelled like cat pee!

Same - I tried it once, and it made me gag!

I used to have a perfume wardrobe back in the late 80s/early 90s, until I found THE ONE, and have stuck with Chanel No. 19 since.

I stockpile shoes. Shoes that I wear and love, I tend to buy in multiple colors and multiple pairs, especially since I’m hard on my shoes and sometimes I just can’t be bothered to clean and existing pair, so I just grab a new pair from the closet

I do that too, and other favourite clothing items.

I probably have about 8 pairs of Crocs dotted around in the cupboards, and at least 3 pairs of shorts, and 2 pairs of wide fit smart shoes.
