Trying to determine whether a 9x7 stock setting would fit a 9 x 6.5 emerald cut colored stone "off the shelf", or with slight modification or if I'd have to go custom.
The would depend on the style of setting, is it open or is there a gallery rail? If you have images this could prove helpful. The stone could potentially just sit lower down of the claws can possibly be brought in slightly.
Is there a way your jeweller can access the setting for you? It would be then possible for them to place your stone on top and advise if it is workable.
What would be the cost difference of going bespoke? As the setting plays an important role of framing the stone and keeping it secure this could be worth the extra. You can then tailor the design around your specifications.
Thanks Durham. I don't have a setting yet. Thanks for the input about the gallery rail and other structures that could make a setting less easy to adjust.
I am mostly curious whether stock 9x7 would fit, cuz I'm not sure I could handle (or afford) :roll custom.
Just mainly looking at inspirations for creating a pendant so I can narrow down what I like and what might suit the stone. Probably all that will change when I actually receive it.
