Hello All,

10 year anniversary coming up on 6/27/09. Looks like I will not have my ring in time

With all the reading that I have done it seems as though their are no real parameters for a cushion cut diamond. I like the more square shape versus the long rectangular shape - so I am not sure if that would be considered the Old Mine type or if it is still considered a modern type??? I called a local gem appraiser in my area who said I can have a few diamonds shipped to him so I will not have to travel to New York etc. I am attaching a few from Good Old Gold and wanted to know which you favor - (if any) so I could narrow down to one or two. Can you please look at the attached links and let me know what you all think would be the best one or two to have shipped. I would like the best of both worlds - quality and quanity if possible) Thanks.

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5866/ ($15,704.00)

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2106/ ($21,000.00) - really did not want to spend this much on just the diamond.

I know the above ring #2106 is higher color and clarity..thus part of the reason for higher price, but is there anything add''l when comparing #5866 to #2106??

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5768/ ($12,828.00) - girdle to thick?

http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/loose_detail.php/shape/C/id/21796970/session/1bed50d0fb5f04eb7805db4dac787db9/sz/150 (no crown/pavillion percentages) - can ask for if you think this could be a keeper_ ($11,157.00)

The site engagement rings direct has a ton of cushion diamonds from 1.60 ct - 2.15 ct to choose from??? So many rings not sure what to focus in on other then I know I want something around 1.60 - 2.15 ct, nothing lower then H color, nothing lower then VS2 clarity, no flor, cut - ideal, excellent or very good.

Any information would be greatly appreciated

The two cushions from good old gold are square cushion hearts and arrow cushions. Those are more expensive because they''re cut for precision and light performance and looks more like ideal round for light performance. Might want to try looking at their normal cushions

I''d recommend emailing/calling Mark at Engagement Rings Direct or Jon at Good old Gold to describe what you like and either can help you find what you''re looking for. Both would probably be cheaper than going through your jeweler and Jon can make a video for you to help you decide.http://goodoldgold.com/diamondResults.php?shape=8192

gog has this one too, that i thought was lovely. there is a video for it as well.

We just picked out our cushion yesterday with Mark at ERD. He is amazing and we have nothing but great things to say about Mark! Good luck!

Thank you - I did see that stone and watched the video. I was not sure about the color being an I though? I have an H in my current e-ring. The price was very good.

I was wondering about how to contact Miss Lorelei for her advice on this post. She had given me great advice before and I know she is very very knowlegible.

Ok, I had a read through and checked the links. The first thing I would say is to keep to H or better for colour initially as your existing ring is an H. As you are looking at large diamonds it is possible you might notice the barest hint of tint in these shapes with I or above in some lights especially from the side. This often doesn't bother many people as it is incredibly subtle but if you are unsure then I would stick to H and above for the time being. If you need to widen the net at a later stage then you can do so by adding in I colour to the search.

What I would do next is call Mark at ERD and see if he can email you some photos of that cushion, it looks very promising on paper so it would be good to investigate this one further. I don't know if it would be square enough for you, but here is a handy tool you can use to enter length to width ratios of your contenders to get an idea.

Also what I would do is contact Jon at GOG if you haven't already done so, explain what you are looking for and see what he can suggest. He has some new chunky cushions which are FABULOUS so he might well have or know of one which could suit you perfectly!

At the moment I would be most interested in the first GOG diamond and the cushion from Mark at ERD.

Hope this helps a bit and just shout if you need any more assistance

Give Mark a call and let him know what your budget is and the parameters you''ve set on your diamond. I''m pretty sure he can find at least a few within the day and get back to you on what he sees.

Mark''s media isn''t really the best so if you go with him, it''s probably best to just let his expert eyes advise you. He won''t steer you wrong.

Lorelei,

Thank you so much for your quick response back. I appreciate you sending the link. I have already used it to play around with the shape and realize I want to stay under a 1:15 ratio to keep at the shape style that I prefer. I will definitley call Mark and Jon to see if I can get more information on their diamonds. I will be in touch as I am sure to have more questions
