so i have been to a few jewelry stores and have been reading through this forum for the last few days. anyway, i finally understand the 4 c's and have my budget set. however, my question/dilemma come with what i should buy.

i've decided to purchase online after reading through this site and my criteria are:

1.1 - 1.28 carats
at least a idea cut
g or h in color
vs1/vs2

therefore when i put that in the diamond selector, i get back a TON of results within my price range. i am looking to spend around 5,300-6,800k. i've even tried to plug a few of these in the "cut advisor" but am not sure which ones to choose (too many)

can you guys/gals please narrow it down to a few or at least link me to a "decent diamond" and a "not so good one" so that i can do the comparison on blue nile?

thanks in advance as i never knew looking would give me such a headache!

There are a number of ACA stones at Whiteflash that meet your criteria that will be stunning. Good Old Gold has some too.

I would narrow by choosing only ideal cut and H&A stones personally and go from there.

Any reason it has to be bluenile?

not really, just branding or a site i've heard of. i've read on here about the others and am willing to try them out too.

could you link me to a good one and one not so ideal for comparison?

(example for 6k (give or take a few hundred dollars), there could be 10 stones. how do you know which is a better cut and looks bigger from the top?)

Neatfreak, using "Stilllooking''s" criteria...I''m not seeing the bunch you are.

Also...on BN...I try to stick with AGS, and see none.

Actually...on the search by cut...I see a total of one.

This one.

Happens to be AGS0, too.

Check it out!

ags? is that preferred over gia?

They met his criteria before I noticed his budget

I was just intending to send him to some well cut ones so he could see.

Around here it is. They are stricter on cut grading.

By most here.

They did cut first, they do it more rigorously, and they really are considered more of a boutique lab almost...except on this board they''re sought after a lot.

all right. on BN i use the "ideal" cut criteria. i''m assuming that is not great?

here are some results. what is bad about each?

Could be fine, but could also not be. You NEED to run the numbers from the cert through the HCA like I've mentioned before in the other thread. By doing that you'd see that the first stone gets a 4.5, which is pretty bad. And the second doesn't have a report to pull from, so I would avoid it until you can get crown and pavilion angles.

Bluenile is harder than many vendors to buy from because of their lack of info on the stones.

noted and thanks!

BN ideal cut grade we have no idea what they use as a criteria, probably just cut grade as reported by the respective labs. Around here, we found that GIA 'excellent' cut grades includes some bad combinations that allows light leakage in the stone so we do not put much faith in GIA cut grades and double check it with the HCA.

The 1.03 stone is definitely a poor cut, scoring only 4.5 on the HCA. The second stone, there is no report posted so I will wait before making a conclusion.
