Still looking for a setting

Iv''e talked to an endless amount of jewelers and custom jewelers. I''f you recall, I even posted a few pics of setting awhile back.

I keep getting the same story from the stores. Since the price of gold has sky rocketed in the last two years, so has settings of course. One jewler even commented that he doesnt even carry a 1/3 of the semi mounts he onced carried because of the prices. He went on to say that 4 years ago a semi mount that was selling for $2500 is now around $4500.

Reminder- 1.26 ct assher,f, vvs2, ex, ex

So what do I do. I cant wait for ever on comodity as gold to come down and on the flip , I really dont want to spend 5k on a semi mount.

Has anyone purchased a semi mount from Ebay? Or do you have any other ideas?

What type of setting do you want?

There are tons available for under $5k... how much under depend on what you want.

I was looking for something that adds a little sparkle to the 1.26 ct asscher. Something simple with baguettes or possibly some small rounds in a channel setting I thought would look nice.

I wouldn''t do ebay. have you looked at settings at pearlmans? quite a few still below 3K there.

I saw a few on ERD that looked tempting. However I did notice that alot of the semi- mounts were platinum, are they avail in 14kand 18k as well?

You might want to call and ask, but usually custom rings can be made in either 18k wg or platinum.

My setting in platinum was way under $5k including all the diamonds - and that was for a complete custom piece.

My brother''s custom ''Harry Winston'' style setting in 18k yellow gold shank with platinum head with 0.40ct of tapered baguettes was even less than that.

Who have you been talking to about settings to get those prices???

One of the places I talked too did the appraisal on my asscher. I looked at the settings hed had in the store. They did alot of custom work as well. One of the others stores was in Colorado, I was asking about a designer setting they had listed and he was the gentlemen that told me he doesnt carry it anymore due to the cost.

Most of the settings I liked and was questioning had around.75-1.0 in accents in white gold
