Has anyone bought their engagement rings with Steve Padis at the GiftCenter? What was your experience like?

I went to this store once and they were very polite and they had tons of engagement rings to choose from, including many of the major name brands. Unfortunately, I was not purchasing anything, my mom was, but she ended up getting her diamond tennis bracelt across the hall at a smaller, but more wholsome-feeling store. I live 4 hours south of San Francisco so I recently called a few of the jewelry stores in the mart inquiring about a cushion. When I called Padis, they said, we don''t carry cushion cut diamonds, we don''t really like them. When I asked why not, he responded, well we feel they are just trendy and are going to go out of style, it''s not an elegant and timeless cut like the others.

I could not believe how snotty and rude he was to me and how he spoke to me like I was some bum trying to buy a Ferrari!!
I also can''t beleive how stupid he was for saying that. If he knew anything, he would know that cushions date way back and it is one of the oldest cuts. And I beleive cushions are fabulous!!!

I''m not much help, but there is an account of one good expereince and one bad.

If you are in the area, just go in and feel it out. I think your intuition will tell you a lot about whether or not to buy your ring there.

Good luck!!

Thank you Couture! I''m going to go check them out today. I''ll let you know how it goes.

I had my mom dig up her paperwork. She bought her bracelet at Edward''s Jewelry & Imports, (415)626-9333, St. 160 in the giftcenter/jewelry mart.
They were super nice and they had a nice selection as well. We worked with Christine Balabanian, she was very sweet and patient.

Hope your search is going well!!

Hi Kat...

Thanks for the advice. I checked out Padis last week and although I was impressed w. the variety of settings and designer rings, I felt as though the salesperson was trying to sell me a used car. A bit pushy.

So I was also recommended to go to the Jewelry Center on Utah st. We went to Jewelry by Peter and they were extremely helpful. They are holding a diamond for me now and we''re waiting for a setting to be made. Should be completed in 2 weeks. Very excited!!! Will post pics as soon as we get the ring.

We''ll also go check out Edwards on your recommendation. Still have to go pick out wedding bands!!

"Good prices and customer service before the sale, but watch out after the sale and there is a problem. They damaged my ring when resizing it and this turned into a day of hell at their store, They tried to pass off the damaged ring, I guess they thought I was blind. I was there for 7 hours before I got my money back. The owner Steve Padis would not even come out and talk to me. Good customers service begins when there is a problem, you won''t get it at here."
