I recently received several boxes of things that have been stored in my father's basement for me. Most are my great-grandmother's, so probably date to the late 19th/early 20th century. Some I definitely would like to keep, but there's quite a lot of random silver that not even my grandmother used.
I'm thinking about selling some of it, but I have no idea whether I should have it appraised separately first, and whether I should have the things I plan to keep insured. And if I do end up having it appraised, how do I go about finding the correct person? I live in Chicago, if that's any help.
I also ended up with my great-grandmother's Limogues china, so I'd love to sell some of the silver I've never used or seen, and use the money towards a cabinet for the rest!
