Bbaffling Array of Long Words

LONDON (The Borowitz Report)—The theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking angered supporters of Donald J. Trump on Monday by responding to a question about the billionaire with a baffling array of long words.

Speaking to a television interviewer in London, Hawking called Trump “a demagogue who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator,” a statement that many Trump supporters believed was intentionally designed to confuse them.

Moments after Hawking made the remark, Google reported a sharp increase in searches for the terms “demagogue,” “denominator,” and “Stephen Hawking.”

“For a so-called genius, this was an epic fail,” Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, said. “If Professor Hawking wants to do some damage, maybe he should try talking in English next time.”

Later in the day, Hawking attempted to clarify his remark about the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee, telling a reporter, “Trump bad man. Real bad man.”

I love Steven Hawking.

I laughed and laughed when I saw this earlier.

Gotta love Steven Hawking!! I still remember the time someone asked him what is the biggest mystery in the universe to him, to which he replied 'women'.
Despite having such a crippling health problem he still has his sense of humor. He's always been one of the world's most important educated minds but doesn't always receive the accolades that I feel he should

It's a very funny piece. I almost posted it here yesterday, but then I was like, "What will Kenny have left to post?" I knew it was right up your alley.

Hilarious!

Monnie, your check is in the mail. :$$):

I am still smiling, but I am also puzzled. Did this really happen? I mean, did people actually have to look up words following a first statement by Stephen Hawking? Or is this apocryphal? I am highly amused, but it just seems so improbable. And if it is apocryphal, wouldn't the humor be that of Andy Borowitz, who wrote the article?

I just had to look up "apocryphal."

Since I am obsessive, I found this website which tells the train of events that led to each party saying what he did. Now I can rest easy, since I know what Stephen Hawking said and what Andy Borowitz said. If anyone else has my same compulsivity, he is welcome to click on this link, too. ;))

I'd heard about what he said on the radio, but their reaction is hilarious!

It seems like the reaction of Trump's followers proves Hawking's point.

I believe the piece was all satire by Andy Borowitz. He appears to have been working off one original statement by Stephen Hawking. Dr. Hawking was once asked to explain "the political ascendance of U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, Hawkins simply said 'I can’t….He is a demagogue who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator.' ”

I think Mr. Borowitz took it from there. ;))

Andy Borowitz's satire often makes me laugh aloud; other recent examples re Carly Fiorina & Ted Cruz:

Thanks, Kenny, for bringing attention to him!

Thanks, Molly. I enjoyed reading about the nurturing Carly Fiorina who was so well loved by her employees. She was clearly everything one could ask for in a boss. ;))
