DH and I just bought a new dining set last week and we love it! Unfortunately, it now has white steam marks on it...grrrr! On Sunday we had my parents over for the Pen''s game(Go Pens!) and I made some home made pizza. We served it on paper plates and had set them on the table. I never thought the pizza was that hot to go through the plate and leave a mark.
I remember setting a hot casserole on my parents dining room table when I was a little girl. My dad was able to grab it off fast enough that the mark wasn''t too bad and they said that it faded over a few weeks. My dad heard that you could put a towel over it and run an iron on it and it would take it out. I am scared to do this though and make it worse! I did put some lemon oil polish on it, but I don''t think it really helped. Has this happened to anyone else before? Were you able to get it out?? Any help would be appreciated!

Actually, the iron method works, but you need to use a white t-shirt. The white mark is condensation under the finish. Fold a white t-shirt in half and lay it over the mark. Set your iron to the low steam setting (which will usually be about a medium heat). Run it over the t-shirt fairly quickly. The steam penetrates down into the pocket and the t-shirt absorbs the water as it's made back into steam from the heat. It may take several tries, but it has always worked for me.

ETA~ Before using the iron method, scrub off the polish residue, you don't want that to go under the finish because it will cause it to pull up more.

There is a product i bought once called burnishing cream from a furniture repair store. It was very stinky- amonia based I think. You rub a little onto the cloth then onto the table burns or water marks and hey presto it vanishes!

Best of luck...

Thank you both for the advice! I haven''t decided which I''ll try first, but I plan to do something to it this weekend.
