Well, I'm starting a new thread because the other one got too long...

RECAP:
I ordered that 1.50 carat J colored round engagement ring...it has not been shipped yet, probably won't until Friday. Anyway, I went to the mall and decided I definitely DO NOT want a J color diamond. Just too much of a yellow tint for me.

I want to try to find something at least 1.20 carat, at least an H color, SI1 clarity, and ideal cut for about $6,000.

The cut and dimensions are what I have trouble determining. Would you recommend any of these?

Please recommend some others to me if you have the time! Thanks!

Is the J color stone you view graded by GIA/AGS? Other labs can be looser in grading and also a badly cut stone will show the stone color more.

#1 is the best.

#2 big no no.

#3 good spread, a brilliant cut, but sacrifice fire for it.

They are all AGS certified at the store, I could really notice it though, more than I thought I ever would....maybe I just saw a terrible cut

I wish I knew how you can tell. The GIA certification shows an excellent cut for all 3, how can the second one be bad? Is it because of the clouds in the center?

hmm.. AGS0 in cut?

Guess you are just one of those unlucky guys that are sensitive to color I guess... :P

I am only looking at it from the point of view of cut performance. GIA Ex grades includes proportions that leaks light, not the best of cut. In #2, you can see significant darkening of the stone under table, that is leakage, it will be very obvious when viewed with an Idealscope.

The G SI1 looks like a good choice.

tyty333...

Can you clarify what all of that means?

Check if eye-clean and request for an Idealscope.

They don''t have the IdealScope available, but she can get it in a few days

Ya, usual.

Stone-cold,
From what you can determine from the diamond's profile on the website, do you think this is a good value for $6,360? Are there much better cuts than this one?

and what does HCA mean?

HCA = Holloway cut advisor https://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp

Ask JA to confirm eyeclean to your standards. It looks good by numbers, IS will confirm that there's nothing wonky.

Priced as expected.

Thanks for sharing that yssie. I''m learning more on here every day. The 1.50 carat that I ordered previously has a 1.2 score....slightly better than this one. I think she''ll be very happy with this diamond though...

does anyone have any more suggestions for possible stones from the JA website?

Can''t find anything else at the moment with your specs.

Also, HCA score is use as a rejection tool, not a selection tool. Score below 2 are worthy candidates to ask for an Idealscope to further weed out stones.

Hey rip how's it goin?

Is there anything else you can tell me about the 1st link?

I am currently chatting on the JamesAllen website. The saleswoman says it is clean to the naked eye.
This one looks good.

Out of the other 2 above, the second I would pass on, the third could be a very nice diamond but is geared more toward brilliance than fire, so really a better balanced diamond is the one above.
