hikerchick, I was a stay at home mom for years, now have worked many different jobs in various fields. But I have worn make up since I was young, because I realized if applied well, it capitolized on my looks. So then I think, why would I want to look like "less"? But it''s a personal thing.

As far as the make-up, I figure if I start wearing make-up regularly then I have to keep up with it so this way, when I put it on I REALLY get a WOW effect . . . don''t know what that says about my looks on the day-to-day but I think I''d be too lazy to keep up with it. And my BF says he prefers women without make-up, so yeah for me

With all this talk of make-up, I might shock everyone at work tomorrow and go in dolled up.

What really surprises me is that so many of them (Charlize Theron, Cameron Diaz particularly) have bad skin, as in acne and blotchiness. I wonder if it's because they wear such harsh makeup for red carpet nights and in front of the camera that it ruins their skin? Just seems odd given that they can afford the best products, facialists and dermatologists.

I think Pamela Anderson is actually very pretty, and she has a cute sense of humor about herself. It's nice to see her without make-up and letting her natural beauty shine through for a change!! Heidi Klum is just gorgeous no matter which way you look at her. That pic of Jessica Simpson is a very good advertisement for Proactiv, no? She looks great!

Sometimes if I totally skip makeup and I have had a rough night with my insomnia, people will say I look tired. My best beauty secret? Look bad most of the time, then when you go to the effort of putting on makeup you can only look great. I have had people who know me more casually see me all made up and done up, hair done etc, and say, Oh my god I did not recognize you...you look great...(so that means I look like **** all the other times?!) thanks.

I only wear make-up if we''re going out somewhere interesting... dinner or a show or even just a bar. I look a lot younger without it, so if I''m trying to look mature for some reason (job interview, etc), I''ll put some on then too. But for my normal day-to-day routine (work and school), I usually just wash my face and head out the door. I don''t like to worry about mascara flaking or eyeliner smudging or foundation rubbing off on my clothes.

This thread is making me question my habits though... maybe it wouldn''t hurt to upgrade to a tinted moisturizer and a bit of mascara in the mornings!

Has anyone else wondered this, or is it just me?


I feel like, if I wear make up (which I do), why would I not wear it sometimes? To me, I want to put my best face forward all the time, not just sometimes.


If you only do it sometimes, why do it at all?

I only wear makeup sometimes. The main reason is that Im in college during the day and I cant be bothered getting up early to apply it-its pure laziness that is keeping me from doing it. Even when I was working full time, I didnt wear make up into work. If I am going out at night though I will apply it. Now that Im thinking of it, I think Ive always been the same-I never wear make up during the day, unless Im going to a wedding or other event, and I will always wear make up when Im going out at night.

I think I need to be more diligent about suncreen and then a bit of gloss, and some mascara...it does not have to be done heavily or mask-like...just to give you a polish...I do think I need to do that, but I also think it is nice to take a break from all that stuff, and let your skin breathe...wash and use moisture/sunscreen but that is it.

Hehe... who am I kidding... if it''s a choice between spending those extra 2 minutes putting on make-up or grabbing coffee from Dunkin Donuts, I''m definitely going with the DD coffee.

Seeing this pictures makes me complexed (strangely enough) I don''t wear any makeup except for eyeliner, and I curl my eyelashes. No lip gloss, no coverup..nothing. Lately I''ve been saying to my guy "I want a make-over" (watching a lot of what not to wear) and he''s like why???

And I keep thinking that if make-up does such wonders for stars, people in general, I wonder if I would look a lot better with makeup on. It looks very much looks like an "art" to me. Like bad makeup can be awful, but when done right...WOW! And my mom told me a few weeks ago that a woman comes to a certain age where she must wear make-up. I just turned 27, so I''m wondering if she was giving me some sort of hint.

I always wonder too, like if you can really look that good with just a minimal effort and a bit of application skill, why is it we do not bother sometimes? when I take FIVE minutes to put on some concealer, a bit of mascara, a bit of bronzer and some lip gloss I look sooo much better yet most mornings I cannot be bothered. Then I get, you look tired! which I likely am since I have insomnia!!!!

I always do the bare essentials like that, especially as I am outside so much I don''t want to expose my skin to the elements, but it is easy now I find to get that natural look down quickly, in probably around 3 or 4 mins, I will have to time myself but I know it is fast. I look like myself only better with this little makeup then I can beef it up if I need to.

My latest find Ellen is a fountation/ powder from Estee Lauder, a couple of quick swipes and I''m done, it''s good stuff! Saves a lot of fiddle f&rting and blending etc...

one thing i noticed about those celeb pics was that the ones w/out makeup were just plain bad shots, i.e. very unflattering probably whether they had makeup on or not.

but i agree w/ what someone said about wearing heavy makeup blemishing your skin. i think this is true for makeup you wear on your face, on your eye lashes, or your lips. if you wear heavy mascara every day and curl your eye lashes, it is not going to make them naturally long and shiney--it''ll make them sparse and stubby--then you need even more mascara.

sometimes i don''t wear any makeup, but usually at least a little. when i wear very little or none, but still have my hair clean and styled, and am well-dressed, i feel pretty good about the way i look, but i do feel better when i have some makeup on. i''ve noticed that people think i look alot younger when i don''t wear makeup though. whenever i buy wine or beer w/out makeup the cashier tells me i look 18 or 19, but i/m 27. i guess it''s the daily sunscreen and staying away from the tanning salons!
